I ordered ARP conrod bolts and big end/mains bolts for my turbo engine.
I got them today and the rod bolts look fine only the mains are studs with nuts? similar to head studs but shorter.

Was i given the wrong things or am i confusing mains bolts as bigend bolts? or do they use the stud and nut in place of the bolt?

Thanks for looking

Hi,
I think the Cooper S block had studs and nuts for the mains. I have to be honest and say I don't know if you can use them in place of the bolts though. One thing to bear in mind is that you should run a centre main strap, which come with longer bolts, so I wouldn't think mixing bolts and studs would be a good idea.
Don't take my word for it though, someone will be along shortly to put me right! *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

is it essential to run a centre main strap? Wouldnt ARP bolts do the same job if not better or is it to stop flex?

thansk for the responses guys, i almost made an idiot out of myself phoning up kent cams telling them they sent me the wrong ones! *blush*

How do you tighten down the studs? do you screw on the nut as tight asit will go and tighten down the stud that way or does the stud have to be torqued down before adding the nut?

Cheers

Install studs first, then fit the main caps. The add nuts and tighten.
Check that the entire threaded parts engages in the block.
