i have one similar to this.
MBC cracks at the desired pressure i beleive and jimmy used one on his mini and we dident like it would hold 4 psi untill 9psi was available and then bang, all at once full boost. the bleed valve was much nicer in both our opinions. tho i tried the MBC and the bleed valve on my nova and oculdent notice a difference for some strange reason :S

The above was from the for sale section.

I don't understand this, dosen't the MBC stop the pressure exceeding 9psi (in this case) rather than giving you it when available?

Also, not exactly sure how the MBC works. Because if you set it to (say) 15psi on a 10psi actuator, then you'll have afully closed wastegate untill 15psi, then a 10psi actuator will suddenly see 15psi. This will surely open the wastegate too much reducing boost pressure below 15psi quite quickly. This will result in the MBC closing allowing the boost to rise again. Full boost would be really wobbly with eth MBC chattering away like mad.

Or have I got it wrong and the MBC is controlled via a bleed valve adjustement?

Hi,
I think the pipes were on the wrong way round in that example. *wink*
I thought the same as you Wil. I thought it was a good idea as you didn't loose boost by bleeding it off. But now you mention that scenario I'm a bit concerned about it to. It may however work ok depending on the port size inside the valve as it may not let a blast of 15psi straight through if it's restricted? Also doesn't the Metro ECU modulate the boost in the same way by constantly opening and closing the solenoid, to keep a steady boost pressure? Is that right or am I just talking out of my hat? (For a change)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

it could well have been on the wrong way round, i know jimmy was new to turbos and things when he put it on the mini, so its posible but it did still set the boost but it gave it all in one big hit. the beled valve was much more progresive. but as i said i used the MBC on my nova and i couldent tell the difference between the MBC and bleed valve while driving that and was running over 20psi.

Hi,
I found with Cosworths that if you put the pipes on the boost control valve the wrong way wrong it has the comes in with a bang effect. I've never used either myself, but a lot of people on here have said you loose some midrange torque with a standard bleed valve.
I'm hoping the MBC will work ok as I want to run 2 stage boost on mine, with a solenoid valve to bypass the MBC. I 'spose the only way to tell for sure is to try both valves out on the rollers!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

The mbc was connected the right way round lol, i may have been new to turbos but i wouldnt guess at stuff like that...

There was a large arrow on the bottom of it anyway and good instructions so you couldnt get it wrong lol

I had my engine in bits many many times too and would have noticed it on the wrong way

one way to test it anyway, when this engines finished ill try it out on that both ways round :)
