Sunny suffolk

Well going for a smoother cam profile(kent 266) has been one of the best things ive done. It is soo much nicer to drive, 30mph or just under in top gear is no problem and down changes for sharp bends/roundabouts etc are now not needed so saves on me clutch aswell:)

So along with a cam change from 276 to 266, std turbo exhaust valves to rimflo, slight porting to ex manifold and elbow ive gained a nice lump down the bottom end and only sacrificed 7 bhp at the top. Could have had a play with the boost but i'll leave that till next time*wink*

have you run a phase 2?
if so whats your thoughts on this cam compared to kent 266? in your 1380 motor

be intersting to see what difference mine will be.

ill be trying the phase 2 next year for comparison to the 276.

thats the only way we will know.

Your right Pete 1380s do make more bananas

The bigger CC the better, I would love to try a 84 mm stroke crank in a 73.5 block but its finding the right piston pin height??.*frown*

Now that would make a storming motor*happy*

Hi,
Looking at the valve opening durations the Phase 2 cam falls in the middle of 266 - 276 for inlet and has the 276 exhaust duration.......
266 IN260 EX270
276 IN264 EX280
Ph2 IN276 EX280
MG IN252 EX268 (N/A Metro)
Personally I don't think the exhaust duration will make any difference to smoothness of idle/ low speed running but will spool up quicker and help get rid of exhaust gases at higher revs.
Also a 1380 will always be a little less cammy than a 1275 on the same cam. Vizard states the A series work best with the exhaust duration slightly longer even on N/A engines.
I'd love to know what the phase2 is like in a 1380, as that's what I was thinking of using. Who's got a ph2 in a 1275/ 1330 can they tell me what the bottom end running is like?

Nice one mate, i reckon the phase 2 will be superb in a 1380 and produces a smooth idle in a 1293 if i recall correctly. Be good to see what hoogys comparison will be.

Sounds good mate,

I'm currently running a phase two in a 1380 and have found it very pleasing with a smooth idle and plenty of power though the range.
Find myself driving in 3rd around town a lot tho.
Although to be fair i havent driven it with any other cam.....

@ tamnorris, what compression are you running on that, please?
@ andeh, Lifted these from an old post from Avonbar
Phase 2 24-60 duration 264 exhaust 67-33 duration 280
So it's basically a Piper 255 inlet and Piper 285 exhaust. HTH

It depends on what you like as i've heard people say how smooth the PH2 is but i've also heard people say it's a little lumpy for them and isn't as smooth as a standard cam.

Personal preference I think.

Hi,
@ Miniwilliams, This is a problem when trying to get a concensus of opinion, what one person classes as lumpy another won't. I think that it may not be down to personal preference, but more to do with engine spec - mainly: cc, comp ratio and mappable igniton/dizzy

Yes good point there is that to, But the people i was on about has a very good engines on a mapped set up*wink*

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

my phase 2 was very smooth on idle. that was on a 1293 with standard compression.

lumpenes is all to do with overlap and i think this is the big one when it comes to big hp potential, i still recon thats why t3tones 276 gave mega hp for the boost sooth idle is always a trade of to big hp as they say you cant all ways have your cake and eat it.

id rather use 3rd round town and have very massive bannas than use 4th round town and have big ones. lol.

I got 143@wheels (170@flywheel) running 14 psi. It hit 143@wheels at about 4900revs and it pretty much stays there till 5600revs.
