Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

haynes manual is a good start
theres more detail in the metro version on G/Bs

you need to replace the 1st motion shaft bearing & double race mainshaft bearing also the two diff bearings.

the idler gear roller support bearings as well.

i may have forgot something ? anyone else

Im planning to build up my next box myself.

A tip Ive picked up off various people and the net is to use the full track 3rd motion shaft (or 'mainshaft') bearing, not the 3/4 width one (which, i think?, is the std in A+ box).

Also, Ive heard that replaceing the idler gear bearing in the transfer case is often more hassle than its worth, been advised to leave it if there isnt too much play, especially if using straight cut drops as it cuts down on the the cogs tendancy to 'twist'.
The source I heard the above from said that no matter how you install the new bearing, they have a tendancy to come lose, overheat and fail.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Cheers

The name's Mystic.

I would encourage you to replace every bearing in the case. You did not mention why you were doing the rebuild in the first place so is this just preventative maintenance?

the minispares clubman gearset is excellent paul
great value for money & the ratios are just spot on *wink*
i run this set up and its fine

yours is a 998 i would run a 3.4 F/D in this.

please replace the idler gear tranfer case bearing then the jobs done right!*wink*

this is easy, no big deal at all.
the link below will show you how.

there are a few ways & all of them gets results!*happy*
