hi

iv been doing some research and looking on this site and others reading about the turbo conversion

so im thinking along along the lines of this:

1275cc (if the block i buy doesnt need a rebore, if so 1293cc)
crank re-ground and balanced
centre main strap
minispares fast road lightwhight flywheel (pre verto type)
morespeed turbo booster head (or will it be a bit over the top??)
avonbar p2 cam kit
megajolt ignition
cr/sc gearbox (not sure what FD)
sc drop gears
minispare x pin diff
t2 turbo on a mirage manifold
not sure what pistons or cr...what would you recomend??
oil cooler (the biggest i can fit!!)
inter cooler (whatever one will fit!!)
ARP bolts
2" maniflow turbo exahst system (single box, side exit)
i dont know what sort of boot to have it at either

is there anything else i should think about?
its going to be for a road going car with the odd trackday etc, do you think it will be reliable and behave in traffic etc if done propoly? and how much power should i expect from it?

cheers
josh

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

sounds very similar to my setup

im using a vmax head
go 3.2fd or lower
cast piston will be fine
about 8:1 - 8.2:1 cr
smaller oil cooler, 6 row should be fine
decent intercooler such as rs turdo

should see you well on your way to 140+ bananas

fooking hell didnt think it would be that much!!
what sort of torque do you think ill see?
would it be ok for everyday use and behave in traffic?
i would want it to be quick off the line but be able to cruse at 70/80mph for motoway journyes with out causing to much fuss if you know what i mean!?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

hi there josh, well a lot of questions my friend

there are many configs of engines
i think your over half way there with the spec you posted.

but i hope you will have over 3 grand or more spare!*smiley*

go for a 73.5 mm bore which will make it 1380

Avonbar acralite 18cc dish pistons
if these are over your budget use Omega

the head i can sort you if you wish pm me

go for the clubman gear set from minispares

the final drive 2.95:1

go for a small oil cooler around 6 row 13 rows are too large, fit an oil stat to keep the oil cooking around 100C

Intercooler make it one which will supplies a 200bhp engine easily!

oh the cam consider the kent 266*wink*

well the power level if its all done & set up right!

will be more than enough to scare the daylights out of you around 160+ BHP is a conservative guess*happy*

dont for get to have the whole rotating assembly balanced clutch damper etc with the crank*wink*

this is only my opinion*smiley*

mine is fine in traffic and for pootling to work, as well as at 90mph. though im currently on a 3.44 and thats a bit too low geared for my liking

however when you start popping out loads of power with a high spec motor you will be wanting to take it apart once in a while to check it over, so you would be wise to have another cheap run about

plus its crap to drive in the rain, you just spin everywhere as the boost comes in

wouldnt a 1380 mean i loose out on the reliability? what about a 1330?
the car im going to build will be my everyday car as well as a toy!
im also runing on tens!

i carnt insure a turbo yet as im 18, but by the time iv saved up and collected parts etc i should be insurable. i carnt wait to actolly drive a turbo mini, the quickst iv been in is my mates swiftune 1380 and its rappid!!

Hi,
Tyre size won't make much difference TBH. I'd go for the 2.7 MPI FD if you can. I'd also go for 1380 to, more torque for the same money! I can't see how the extra cc's will make it anymore or less reliable *wink*
Your compression ratio wiil dictate how much boost you can run. However you can run 10 psi on 9.8:1 with an intercooler, cira 170lbft torque.
Remember higher compression gives you better fuel economy off boost, as does a well mapped ignition system. The same goes for Benross's suggestion of the 266 cam (or even MG Metro?) instead of the Ph2, if you're mostly road use.......
Cheers,
Gavin :)

so is the 266 cam more road frendily than the p2? will i loose any performance if i use the p2 instead of the 266cam?
my dad doesnt think i should go for a 1380cc as the bores are close together? and that u carnt recover it if it needs a rebore.

A rebore shouldnt be needed for over 100,00 miles I dont think that is an issue.

Hi,
Make sure the block is offset bored to keep the centre cylinders as far from each other as possible.
If you need a rebore, just get another block bored for 1380, assemble into the new block *wink*
The 266 cam will be more road friendly than the ph2, due to less overlap.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

surely though u dont gain much from a 1275 cc block to a 1380cc block? or do you? by how much would u think?
so with a 266cam will i loose any torque/bhp over the avonbar phase 2 cam? i though the p2 cam was the best for road use?

cheers
