So, I've made a bracket to hold the actuator onn the LHS of the engine bay (see photos). The problem is that when I pressurise the actuator (using a foot pump) it moves; see arrouw on picture.

Total movement before the actuator opens the wastegate is around 0.5mm. Does anyone think that this will cause a problem. As you can see the bracket is pretty hefty as it is. I will lightent it eventually.

Can you not add a brace strut from the outside edge of the bracket, to where the wastegate housing bolts onto the turbo (in the second of your pics)????

I don't suppose that 0.5mm of movement will make much difference, but over time will the bracket fatigue and fail in the middle of a potential FTD run at a hillclimb? Worth doing it properly and doing it once in my opinion, I'd guess that if you are concerned enough about it to post up on here, you are already 95% of the way to modifying it so it doesn't move at all.....................

Surely this movement is just from the bracket itself flexing as it releases the pre-load?

Admittedly, it's far from ideal, but will you really feel a difference?

I'm surprised you couldn't find room over the side mind; putting a 'dog leg' into the actuator arm maybe - or using a smaller diameter body? Especially as you sacificed the engine steady for this layout.

"""Surely this movement is just from the bracket itself flexing as it releases the pre-load?""" Yes, exactly Dave.

There really was no room on the other side. This is mainly because I have a Montego carb which has a choke converted from an automatic. I'd have still needed to make a bracket though and it's even harder to find a mounting point on the RHS.

As for the engine mount, we haven't used the steady bar on that side for 5 years.

Cheers

In that case, given what you've said - I wouldn't have any worries about it... If you can fit a lower brace like tom suggests, all the better. If not, it'll probably be reliable enough... But once you start lightening it.... *wink*

Hi,
If youy have a look in Nics how to, the mirage braket bolt on to 2 of the manifold studs, bracing it the opposite way to your bracket. I don't know if that will help? *indifferent*
Cheers,
Gavin :)
