Just planning to strip down my engine this week end...

Does anyone know the size of the big socket required to undo the big centre bolt which holds on the pre verto flywheel ?

Cheers

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

Cheers Dave,

2 of my pistons look shot at so forcing the rebuild. Block seems to have little scores between cylinders on deck like on the picture in the other post (the one with the valve marks on). Only noticed because of imprint in in gasket

I will have to have it decked, whats the max you can take off before you have to take the crowns down, if the block hasn't been scimmed before ? <80 thou ??

Well If using the MiniSpares Mega pistons (based on the metro turbo, but with a smaller dish - but easilly opened out) these sit around 45 thou down from the deck.

As you'd be machining the piston anyway, it's easy to whiz another 35 thou off the crown height aswell - but will limit the dish size aswell of course...

You don't want to deck too much off though as you start reaching a point when you need to be getting some longer pushrods made - or accepting lousy rocker geometry.

I have +40 metro turbo pistons which have a bigger dish I think ?
How much can I open these out by ?

Do they have the same inset as the Mega pistons?

How much do you need to leave between the piston crown and the deck ? 45 THOU?

Not a huge amount - if you want to keep a decent squish that is...

Inset? not too sure what you mean?

As little as possible... Stock metro turbo pistons are something like 15/20 thou down from the deck I recall, so that's your starting point.

Anyone happen to know the socket size socket for a verto bolt. I measured at 30.8 mm, which is 1 1/5", which dosen't sound right.

It was difficult to measure, wil a 30mm or a 31 do the job.

Wil, does that mean the 33m i gave you is wrong? It must be the other big one I have that is the one you need. Mind you that is a 30mm, so I am not sure that is right.
