right guys, ive got a decent bolt in roll cage, and am gonna weld in a harness bar to carry the harnesses. im well aware of the need for the extra leg bracing down onto the tunnel, as per the photos vergard kindly provided in the last thread along these lines....

the query for the moment is..... i belive the bar should ideally be mounted such that the shoulder part of the harnesses are as close to horizontal as possible. is this correct, or is there a optimum angle?

Cheers, Pete

think horizontal is the way to go, i think last time i checked it was 10 degrees max above or 25 degrees max below.

so horizontal is indeed the optimum. looking at it from a physics point of view i cant see how anything other that horizontal can be best.

They must go BETWEEN horizontal and 45 degrees below the horizontal.

This is done so that the forces are transmitted through the belt webbing, and not through the seat back, which could collapse.

well as i understand it, (but i could be wrong, hence the question) they are supposed to be horizontal so that in the event of a impact the force will be transfered to the belt and body of the car as soon as possible to slow you down. if the belt is at 45 degrees, then as the impact occurs, the force of you moving forwards will crush the back of the seat down, meaning that the blet will be longer and you will have a chance of hitting the steering wheel, windscreen etc.

really bad description of the point im trying to make, but hopefully you get the idea.....

could be wrong tho, as i say....
