About 20 psi asuming you run very good high octane fuel and the intercooler is very efficient, depending on compression ratio and quiality of build.

Otherwise get it to a rolling road and a good operater who will tell you what is is capable of as he listens for detonation.

That is your answer.

You crazy wouldn't 20psi melt standard pistons i was thinking about 8psi and when you need it 12psi i'm on 5psi at the mo and to be far my standard 1275 could blow my turbo out the water so i need to do some cause surely thats not right

Jon's comment was "tongue in cheek"... He's basically saying - you run whatever your engine will LET you run...

It just can't be answered by a question on a Forum.
Imagine your head has been skimmed a few times in the past - and your static CR is up around 10:1 (easy with a moderate skim) - and someone here says it'll be fine at 10psi...

You get the idea?

Furthermore - the last line in your last post answeres a lot.
IMO, a well-set up mini on 12psi will dick all over 286-cammed 1380's everyday of the week. If yours hasn't even got 1275 performance, something is VERY wrong...

Thanks for the advice Dave! The bit i could understand ratios and all that make head spin. Whats is it a case of putting it on a rolling road or just playing round uping the boost i surpose it will get to a point where you've over boosting and reached the engines peak but i'm a bit scared on where cos the lad i brought it off blow his engine up driving it round on 15 - 16psi so just looking for some simple tips aprt from not booting it round all the time and running on full boost. Just like i say after a bit for performance cos its slow to be far and staring to think was it worth al the work but am worried about standard pistons heard enough scary tales on here about them

Thanks Dave....

Zeemax, there are alot of factors to consider...

Do some "googling" and read up on things...The A series turbo is a very simple beast.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

yeah this one! lol!

but if you say your on std boost and its as quick as your non turbo 1275 i wouldn't say its in good condition!!

You may be suprised with a good setup that you'll gain loads with no boost increase!

And ive witnessed how fast and well it runs *wink*

- and Benross doesnt bodge/cut corners on anything!

My rolling road operator on my old mini told me that it was safe up to 11psi on standard pistons with no intercooler, so i ran it at 9psi, and it was still quick

i was thinking about 10psi but i'll put it on 9psi i see if it can see off my standard 1275 lol but i do think theres other reasons like the weight diffenerce and i swear lossing power though the intercooler and dump valve like all the distance the air has to travel to intercooler and the dump valve not like any other cars dump valve leaking air all the time can't be saving you power

Hi,
If your dump vavle is leaking air all the time it's knackered. Take the small pipe off the top and see if it's still leaking, if it does the diagphram is fubar. If the boost is pissing out of somewhere it's not going in the engine *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

you dump will only be open on vacuum, it should be closed on boost then open when you lift off....have you plumbed it in properly?
