mr haynes will tell you how to line the dots up. basically with crank at TDC the dot on the crankshaft gear will be at about 2 oclock and the dot on the camshaft gear will be at about 8 oclock, so they point at each other if you get the idea.
this will give you rough cam timing but isnt accurate, have you got adjustable timing chain gears if so do the above then follow toms guide in the how to section to adjust it accuatly.
thats what i did anyway.

p.s if you havent got adjustable timing chain gears you can get off set woodruff keys

Hi,
Forget the dots! Line them up when you fit the gears / chain so you know your roughly in with a chance. Then use the Vizard method to find your full lift timing figure.
If it's not 108 degrees then use an offset cam woodruf key to get it correct. Otherwise, buy adjustable cam gear and adjust *wink*
Either way gets the same result! HTH
Cheers,
Gavin :)

It will work, just maybe not as well as it could. The trouble is that unless you measure it, you don't know whether it is spot on or miles out.

My last phase2 cam line up perfectly without any offset woodruffs. First one needed a 6-degree I recall !!!

I'm having a bit of a problem with my cam timing. I've honed all the follower holes, but number two is sticking slightly. Maybe I've used too much cam lubes as well. There should be no reason for me not to use #4 inlet for timing should it? I've never had to before, although I do see that this would be a nice way to check the cam's accuracy as well. Any thoughts?

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.
