How about turning this thread into a list of small alternators used by people so that the newbie can find all the info in one place. Also if any special mods are needed to make it fit that could be useful info too..

So far I know of;

Suzuki Swift, 100mm dia, 50A, single V pully
Dihatsu Charade, 100mm dia, 50A, single V pully
Daweoo Matiz, 100mm dia, 65A, single V pully
Suzuki SuperCarry, 100mm dia, 40A, single V pully

Please add any info you have

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Joey, thanks for the link, I have seen that thread, and many of the others on here. I was hoping to make a list in a single thread of all the options people have taken.

Should make it easier for people to find...

Does that mean any thing to you? All I know is that it's small and was cheap.

If this one is lightweight and 2,75kg... how much does the mini part weigh?

I think Iain was struggling to get a good output as it was designed to work on a small digger that was continuously running high revs.

It should work if you fit a smaller pulley to alter the ratio, I know Iain was thinking of doing this, but not sure if he's done it yet or not?

I havent altered mine but to be honest i havent charged the battery for a long time either and its only small so it must be keeping all fairly well as its done a lot of starts!

i will alter it when i get chance this winter.

i've seen those kubota ones used on mini miglia's but these are silly money new and have a low output. miglia's have to have an alternator so have these as a token gesture as the low output meens they put a smaller load on the engine.

i would have thought its too small for a road car, mainly at night in the rain. if i'm correct this would be the worst time to find out its too small!!

i wouldnt use it on a everyday road car, but on a car that sometimes see's the road, and the alternator is needed so you dont need to take a genny racing then they seem spot on.

i would use it for a road car that isnt really used at night or in the rain type of thing.

10 ish amps is a fair output. more than enough for my car.

thanks

best thing is have a quick estimate of what will be on when you are driving.

Id say as rough estimates....

ECU 5-7A (remember you'll be running 4 injectors as well as the ignition).

Water pump 1-2 A

Gauges 2 A (depending what you have)

Already your looking at getting near or over the 10A personally i'd be looking for something a little bit bigger.

if you ask kubota about the alternator Iain use, they claim it to output 18 amps.

If its really 18 amps that should be fine!

also maybe wise to add a couple of amps to the list for a rad fan.
