got a bit of an issue with mine now i've turned it up from 5psi to 12psi. I think its emptying the float quicker than it'll fill up.

If i nail it in 1st then 2nd, when i change to 3rd and floor it it bogs down and doesn't cut out but won't accelerate any more. If i back off then back on a few seconds later it'll accelerate then die again after a few seconds.

the only thing i've got different from my old engine was a filter betwen the reg and carb, binned that now incase it was restricting it, it's a little better but still ran out of guts when i was playing with a scooby earlier.

Is it likely to be anything else before i shell out for a new pump? could it be something to do with the float in the carb maybe? the carb was rebuilt before i fitted it onto this engine, the reg has been swapped recently aswell. the only thing i haven't done yet is monitor the fuel pressure while its doing it.

any suggestions appreciated, Nick :)

Check the reg is set up ok.
Make sure that the float height is set ok.
Float valve, working as it should.
Fuel line from pump to reg or reg to carb colapsed internally?
Fuel feed line big enough and return bigger?

Hope you find it mate ..... scooby's need a to be bought down a peg or two.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

still bought the scooby down lol *wink*

i'm running 8mm feed, 10mm return, all new solid and flexi lines at xmas. the idle pressure is 3.5psi.

only things to really double check then are the float and the pump i guess.

Hi,
Can you hook the fuel pressure gauge up so you can check the fuel pressure under boost?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

this was exactly what was happening to mine at york last year. i backed off my filter king, fitted a float bowl extention from avon bar and got one of their uprated needle valves. not had a single hiccup since mate.

I had a similar problem when i was using a filter that was too restrictive between tank and pump.

I also contributed to the scooby bashing on my last venture*wink*

hmmm actually thinking about my fuel system is a lot different from the last car which never had this problem at 15psi.

i used to run an 8mm feed and return, the return was t'd back into the feed between tank and pump.

this is just what i needed 2 weeks before the riv run, lol.

Are you using my old tank?

I used 10mm flow and return, and a cavalier sri pump
I dont know how that differs to your set up, but im wondering if the pump doesnt have a high enough flow rate??

yeah i'm using your tank now dude. its 10mm down to the pump then 8mm the rest of the way, and 10mm return.

me and kean noticed the pump sounded a lot noiser than usual at the weekend aswell.

Steve, its definately a lean off problem. got a wideband in the dash now (worth its weight in gold!)

going to check the pipes for kinks etc and hopefully the pressure tonight. If not i think i'll get a new pump, might try one of those £25 ebay jobbies, the bosch copies.

nick ,are there any filters in the system at all , if so check them all , also , i had a prob with a diaphragm in the fpr seeping pressure above the diaphragm , wip out the pressure adjusting screw and see if you have fuel out of there ,also do you have the little filter in the carb float bowl entry ?

there you go wil, its got the part number for the mutro pump listed as being suitable. a few people off here have bought em but i dont anyone who's actually fitted one yet.

Robert, i've got a filter between the tank and pump, the same type i've been using for the past few years (cheapo plastic ones with 8mm tails). i had to swap my reg recently for that exact problem, the diaphragm had split.

sounds like the filter to be honest. if you were T'ing the return into the supply on the last sut up the filter is probably restricting things. you should use an injection filter.

from the sound of things your not running the spi/mpi tank. have you removed the standard filter in the tank?

i'm not sure if the std filters still there. i'd guess at no as the outlets been upped to 10mm as is the return. Hopefully Nic can confirm cos its his old tank :)

Did you try the T peice trick in the end Bud?

I know Wes had a very similar problem, and so did I and both times it turned out to be a faulty pump!

As its easier to illiminate the filter, try removing it and taking it for a quick spin!

It sounds like your pump, as you say you've changed your fuel lines, if you've increased the ID then the pump will have to pump more fuel through to create the same pressure it did with the small ID hose, it might of been on its way out before but is now more noticable as it is having to work a little harder (or pump more fuel)?

Just had a though of somethng else to check.

Have you checked the pipe from the plenum to the FPR, mine managed to melt (on the Riv run of all places...LOl), 1st and 2nd were fine but 3rd and 4th gear I had to keep letting off as it kept cutting out!

Just checked the filter and piping and it all looks fine, the filter looks almost new still.

got a new pump on the way aswell to be safe, can always stick it back on ebay if it turns out to be something else.

Only thing i cant check at the minute is what the fuel pressures doing at full chat, the roads are a bit too wet round here for me to give it death and keep me eye on the gauge too, lol.

I think its gone, i didnt mod it myself, but from the way its been done i presume its gone, (i never had problems with it anyway)

If the pump has changed tone it suggests that its struggling in some way (filter, or dying)
