i looked into this and found the oil levell on engine (none run) to be approx 1"3/4 above probe where i fitted it

works fine

but if i was to remove the engine i would have placed this in a better lower position in the box

works fine jimster *happy*
because the probe is in the oil!

albiet not at the btm of the sump

but its in and theres "plenty of splash"
its straight into the the box *wink**wink**wink*
only had it down the road a few miles but works fine

thought about the sump plug route making an adapter etc ...
but.........

that would be a ball ache!

this is the easy way*wink*

minispares sell an adapter union to screw into sump plug hole, then you screw in sender, but I don't like the idea of losing the sump plug magnet

This was my only concern of fitting the temp gauge there as well.... I guess one could fit this:

But I'm not sure it'll do the same job.

I use one of those vegard, and also some extra magnets in the gearbox. I have some small thermocouplers I plan to get my engine up to tempreture, then record the oil temp in the sump, before the oil cooler, and after the oil cooler (where my permenant oil temp sensor is located) it will be intereseting to see the difference

you can use the adapter union in the sump plug hole and fit magnet plug in the oil pick up pipe off the back of the gearbox
