Just posted mine back asking for an AF470 in exchange (agreed with Gavin by PM last week) but knowing my luck, they will be out of the good AF470s by the time my Belgium BK450 gets there......

I spoke to Gavin this afternoon and he had 8 left in stock after my order, so you might be ok. I went on a mission with local factors to see what they had in the lines of 450's both places had batch's of 1286, but guessing these are the shit ones too?

First a big thanks to Gavin and the team at MiniSpares, a replacement AF470 arrived today with the "good" made in England on it..... so I got one of their last eight.

Ironically it was just like this...
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=298689

In the same Unipart package !!!!

So if you are prepared to use the AF470 instead of the BK450 - the only difference appears to be the larger oil feed hole with a built in O-ring that might make it unsuitable for some non-standard heads - once MiniSpares run out, Unipart should have over 100 left.

Unless MiniSpares have bought them all ...... :):):)

I don't think I would believe any thing on TMF or MF unless it was posted by someone who knows what they are talking about (in which case they would be on here anyway)

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Well 1200 miles down 650 of those with 250kg extra in the trailer, and everything is still looking fine. Probably change the head gasket after Avon though.

Time to dig this one out again. Have, up untill this weekend been using the unipart gasket, which has now failed after 800 miles. its blown no1 into the water jacket. Just wondering what sucess rates others have had in light of the BK450 issues?
Cheers

Dodgy BK450 strikes! I had one on the yellow mini. I have done about 500/600miles in the car trouble free.

New owner collected the car yesterday gasket blew on him after about 60miles.

I feel like a prize a-hole as he has had the car recovered to his home. I offered the guy all his money back etc and offered to have to car recovered at my cost etc however he declined.

As a good will gesture I am sending him all the parts he may possibly need to replace the gasket and help as much as possible.

Bummer is he lives in Halisham which is about 300miles from me.

If he lived close I would have done the gasket myself. *frown*

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Post dig up time gents

Does anyone have any up to date news on these gaskets, im hopfully going to minispares tomorrow to get my engine gaskets and although im hoping rich will be there to guide me, if he isnt i need to no what im wanting.

Ive just taken the head off today to ease cleaning it out and its the first time its ever been off since build and is a af460.

Now reading through this thread there is mixed thaughts on both but the main contender is the bk450 (dodgy batch aside).

rick

Ps

Just to add, ive jusy been looking through a minispares catalogue that lists both gaskets but its saying that the af is3.4cc compresion volume and the bk is only 4.0cc.

I gather with me running rather low (7.5:1) comp the bk will be even worse.
