Hey guys,

Got the car, got the turbo, got some other parts. Just would like some advice on what next to do.

The car's a 1994 998cc. i've never worked on a pushrod motor before so this is all new to me.

Got the engine out a couple weeks back and starting to strip for new seals, and other parts that look like they've warn out.

However - i've got stuck on getting the flywheel and clutch out, i'm trying to this without the use of specialist 'one-off' purchase tools, so would like some ideas on removing these from the crank?

i'm also lost as to what parts may need to be purchased and what is a realistic power target for an everyday car. A good compromised between power and reliability is important.

The parts gathered so far is everything off the mini + small 7 or 9 'bar' oil cooler and a Garrett 465181-1 spec turbo, details of which are vague except it's come off a Saab 9000 Turbo (2ltr 16v). i would like to know the flange size and other details off this turbo if possible.

Details are vague as i'm about to go for my dinner so i'm cutting corners.

Many thanks,
Klint

Hi,
You'll need the puller to get the flywheel off. Even then you may still have to get the hammer out!
Turbo "could" be a little large, depends on how low rpm you want it to come in..

Gavin :)

you will need, the exhaust manifold for the turbo, possibly may need a custom built one.

Inlet manifold and turbo carb, with plenum, fuel pressure regulator, dished pistons, oil feed from block too turbo, mpi fuel tank with sender.

err plenty more, im sure the experts can add some more.

oh also, a big flat headed screwdriver and a hammer, always works for me just be carefull not to damage the flywheel. saves buying a puller

Excellent guys cheers.

Any suggestions on where to go for these parts? And what spec they should be?

There's also an intercooler + piping in the works already.

There's definitely some force holding it in place.

Since the pic was taken the crank nut and locking pin has been removed.

I would not reccomend this "method" at all!!!

Get a flywheel pulley and do it properly IMHO, ive lost count of how many times ive used mine.

You'd be VERY lucky to get the flywheel off with a screw driver and hammer especially if it hasn't been taken off for years!

And when you do get the puller make sure you have the flywheel in the correct position or the "C" washer can drop and lock it solid.

Okay cool, on the hunt for the flywheel puller from a friend, just a matter of time now.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where i can get a seal/gasget kit for the engine?

Also should i keep this flywheel and have it lightened or go aftermarket? Also some info on clutch options would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Klint

I't worth keeping an eye out on ebay for flywheel pullers, ocasionally some of the older ones made from a nice thick peice of plate turn up, alternativley if you have access to some big taps you can chomp up a bit of 1/2" plate and make a nice one.

or make a hydraulic one like i did

Bat, the bolt's already off has been for a while, still haven't made any progress.

So, what's next for the engine/gearbox once the flywheels out? What do you think i should shop for, for the rebuild process?
