Well as the cat is out of the bag sort of,, no I have not swapped my engine it's still the A+.

Two weeks ago I was chatting to Paul W on the Book of many Faces about maybe attending Avon, so the goal was set for both of us!

Now the prep was going well and the Mk1 was behaving, up until the brakes started leaking, then the bias was not working too good with my setup, but I managed to get that sorted. Then it was RR where it made 188bhp before it started wheel spinning. Next on the list was the small oil leak under the car, now with work getting in the way this was left until Friday night. On inspection I found it was coming from the sump plug so I just nipped it up a bit and then I found it became loose. So the outcome was that it was f++ked! so at 17.30 a call was made to secure the loan of a hell coil kit for the night. In stepped Ben with his super man pants on to call and get the bits on the way home from work. 20mins later and the sump plug was fixed and I was sat good to go.

Saturday came and I was like a kid on Christmas day up at 06:00 and the car was packed. When I set off I thought I would meet up with Robert for a convoy up the road, so I made my way to his manor house. We had a good catch up, then we set off on the back roads of Oxon.

We got there in good time and I set my tent up sharpish so I could get all the crap out of the car so I could get on the strip.

The Runs..
Now it looks like I have forgotten how to drive the Mk1, as I kept letting it bog down! So after a crash course from carl and yoda, aka Robert I found my feet.

My best run was=. 13.9 with a 60ft of 2.1

Then today I was having what felt like the best run of the day and BANG the head gasket went, lots of French words later......

So I used the rest of the time chatting and packing the car up. Now I have never been to a meet that was not just mini so it was nice to see other cars run very fast times, like a subaru run 8sec at 155mph.

AA time...
I nursed the Mk1 to that nice little pub down the road where I started the whole AA saga. A long pub lunch later and some cold ones and the car was on the truck and I was sleeping the weekend off in the back.

I would like to say, it was nice to meet some new faces and some old ones, and some new cars aswell.

188 brake, wow seems your setup is finally showing it's true potential....well done simon!

Seems the 'only' thing left to do is preventing your engine from spitting out headgaskets. Some 'needle work' seems in order, and whilst not a band aid I feel the following article might interest you especially given your professional background....

Might be worth changing those ARP studs to Velcro given your miles per head gasket. Lol

Well done on the new Pb! Do you think the fueling was out due to the car no having traction on the rollers?

Yes dan I booked it in at minispeed as its 10mins away, but I sort of ran out of time on the RR when I was down there.

Chatting to robert about it I think it needs a lot of setting up work done to it to get it singing right not just 4or5 power runs lol.

What a bummer, must have a fair bit more to come out of it considering you only did a few RR runs!
