Having a bit of a problem getting the timing set up. If I set it as per the book at 7deg BTDC, the engine doesn't run too well. If I advance (?) the timing to around 16deg BTDC it runs a lot smoother. Should I set it as per the book and look around for other problems or just accept that it runs ok at 16deg?--I'm running the Metro Turbo electronic ignition system. |

The only thing that I have some doubt about is the coil- this is not the original. Everything else is as fitted to a Mark1 (?)-1983- Metro Turbo. ie remote Ignition Amplifier etc. Timing is being set with the Vac Advance disconnected and the engine running about 850rpm. Would the wrong coil make a big difference to the running?? |

The timing should be checked at 1500 rpm, with the vacuum disconnected, as others have mentioned. |
