After a long project and a few small technical issues we have finally finished our turbo conversion. I just wanted to say thanks to those that replied to my posts in help needed.

Cheers

That looks quite different - the way that it's black instead of chrome. I like it. *smiley*
Only slight thing I don't like is the shiny polished wheels aren't in keeping with the rest of the theme of no-chrome?

If they were a nice black it'd look a bit more balanced - photoshop anyone???

Needs some 'tyre silk' or whatever it's called to make the tyre walls darker aswell.

Aside from that - it's a sweet and unique looking mini. Nice install under the bonnet aswell *happy*

Matty,
the indicators come from later Morris 1000's. Apparently also morris oxfords or westminsters(???)

cool,

i'm not keen on the wing mirrors but thats just my opinon, the feed into the intercooler is bloody intresting though, that really might help get air through the core.

The other black box is an secondary radiator. It is actually the heater matrix from a Subaru, for which we made a surround and mounted on "cotton reel" exhaust mountings. Its got an inline thermostat which controls a Motorbike fan mounted on the outside of the rad. It seems to work a bit too well though as we went to Stanford hall yesterday, (150 mile trip after I got us well and truely lost) but the needle never rose out of the blue part of the gauge the whole way.

I was not sure whether I should post this in this thread or start a new thread in help needed.
Below is the Graph I was given from the rolling road session carried out on Thurday. It does not mean much (in fact nothing) to me so if someone could tell me whether this is good or not, what corrected figures are and why we seem to have a dip in torque starting at 65 MPH I would be grateful. Sorry about quality, it was lashing down when we picked up the car so the paper got wet.

We are getting Serious lag in 4th gear when accelerating from 45mph or going up a steep incline.

ive never seen a RR graph that has MPH on it instead of RPM surely this will make it a bit difficult to read properly?
surely the rolling road guy should have had some ideas about the dip in power.

still a good result tho mate.*smiley*

The engine is a standard 1275 Metro turbo. The only real mod is the intercooler. Unfortunately the one Issue I have is that we sent it for the rr before I understood that by removing the ecu etc the boost would be 4.5psi standard (Bleed off valve or uprated actuator not part of vocab at that point) . At the rr station the guy found that he was not getting much boost so has shortened tha actuator rod, which according to threads on here is not a good thing. He is saying that the intercooler and piping may be restictive and that the turbo is "tired". He did say that he was getting 115hp at 7000rpm?? My main concern is not the power but more drivability at this point, as the lag wicked. But if he is getting these figures off a standard engine can the inlet be that restrictive?

the bottle necks here for you on a standard motor is head, exhaust manifold and exhaust elbow!

oh! and the cam is a shade too pussy like

not totally bad though

The turbo is 'tired' ???
Well if it's making boost, and isn't smoking, then how is it 'tired' I wonder? That doesn't make much sense...

I don't like the mph readout - that makes it VERY difficult to analyse. Incorrect timing can make a turbo respond very slugglishly. The standard t3 is a little laggy, but It isn't so bad as to comment on as much as you do. It could be you have a larger turbine housing from the escort RST - if the turbo has ever been rebuilt this is more likely. It is pretty easy to identify if you know how - do you have any pictures of the turbocharger itself - either on the engine or off it?

That intercooler piping doesn't look restrictive to me - and I can't see the core on the intercooler, but it looks a reasonable size and hence should flow well.

Shortening the actuator rod isn't the best way - but as an interim is definately an option for more boost.
