OK so am in the middle of building me turbo mini and i have started to have horrible nightmares of some tosser pulling out on me and slamming into the side of him a lot faster than I would have been traveling in my 998cc.

So, just wondering how many people fit rollcages to their turbo minis (for road use) as I am in two minds as to whether I am just going a bit paranoid or if the majority do this once their mini gets a bit of power...?

Hi,
It would certainly stiffen the shell, which will improve handling also.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I'm not sure but I think some insurance companies get a little upset with roll cages. Maybe check that first. My current insurance company doesn't so I have a 60's style 3 point (ala Italian Job). Useless in a roll over but I like it.

Too many arguments for cage or non cage. For road use, I think I would go for comfort of an everyday car without cage. If I was 15 years younger...I would say F*** it....and throw one in!

i have one to stiffen the shell, i drive to fast in a standard 998 lol *happy*

it defo improves the handling, my car is my daily & has nothing in it, 2 crap seats, harness, cage, speedo, no bitumen soundproofing on the floor or anywhere else, the rear bins & seatpan are gone, i dont find it noisy at all to be honest, but i'm used to it, i dont even have a stereo, i went with miniworld/herts insurance & they were fine about the cage being in! £200 & somat quid, cant remeber my exact premium of the top of miy small head lol *happy*

nic & mike have seen my back to basics car in the flesh

you defo notice the stiffness of the shell & better handling! safety is only better if you have a helmet of propor cage padding!

SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

Nic and CMflip have raised a good point. I know in OZ it's illegal to have a cage if it's not padded up like crazy. A cage might help prevent the shell deforming in an impact but I wouldn't want to be deformed against the cage! Kinda glad mines just a glorified coat hanger now.

Ill fit a full cage as my car is fibreglass, and I dont think I will stand much chance in an accident without. Without would be like driving turbo charged tuppaware!

Close, I've gone for the roll centre one, meets all the FIA requirements for anny international event (totally over kill for what I want) and costs about a third of the safety devices item.

On you poll you need another box for the likes of Iain & Jim (and eventually myself) who have full on climbing frames.

Shropshire.

yep full weld in cage here too - but mostly because the roof is carbon.

Anything that helps in the event of an accident is a good thing in my eyes - also helps to tighten up the car, so thats a bonus.
