Thanks shane, but I need a single phase machine as its for use in my garage.
I'll mention it to a mate of mine who might be in the market for a 3 ph machine though.

Fair enough, Cheers Tom, I think Noah had one similar to it on the ark, its nothing startling but it does the job.

I can't comment on the Rehmann, but my Mitech has been faultless over the last twelve months.

It doesn't seem to have proper square wave AC with variable mark/space ratio that is essential for proper TIG welding of aluminium.
Might just be the way it's shown on eBay but without it, forget aluminium.

Im pretty sure that German Reihman is just the typical Chinese stuff.

I bought an R-Tech about a year ago, and its been ok. Gas solenoid did fail recently, although it was replaced under warranty.
It hasnt seem much use though, which is worrying.
And for a "British" machine, it has a hell of a lot of Chinese parts in it, which i was none to amused to find.

British my arse.

Buy a decent machine like a dynasty 200DX and weld ally all day without any reliability or performance issues...

This is one thing that I'm glad i just shelled out the money for instead of putting up with inferior kit.

I have looked at the Miller machines as I know they are really good, but for the odds and sods I will want to do, I just can't justify (or afford) £1500 for the Miller machine. £300-odd for one of these cheapo ones is within range, will have to see if its good enough to do what I want to do.

I'm also in the same boat Tom, I can afford / justify a few hundred quid on a tig, but not £2k. I know the miller is the better machine, but would I notice the difference?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I'm another in the same position *smiley* I've got the advantage of 3 phase though if i need it at my dad's but single phase would be easier as i wouldnt have to travel 20miles to use it.

if we get meny people to donate some money so someone can buy one to test. if it dosent brake or sux the person give the money back, and we all buy renthman tigs. if it fails. We all lose pocket changes. And save for a expencive one.

Tom.

I use my cheap 0.8mm Clark Turbo Mig welder (yes, MIG welder) to weld ali plate, castings and st steel using 100% Argon, rather than Argoshield or CO2.

Ali wire rolls and Argon gas bottles are available from Halfords.

Really good for small jobs - I've made all my coil, throttle switch and actuator brackets this way. With a little practice, I've got quite good results and clean deep pen welds with only a little splatter.

Not ideal for big runs but entirely practical without having to buy a Tig.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I've used my mig for ali welding, not had fantastic results, but ok for tacking things. Maybe this is because I'm using argon shield not pure argon?

any reason why I could not use pure argon for mild steel too?
