1st to provide proof of a running Bimmy Conversion!

Brisbane ,Australia

yeah,,, how come???

Oh, yeah, i`d better type what i`m thinking hey?

How come we havn`t seen a turbo injected 500hp Honda powered mini yet?

or is there one that i`ve missed somewhere?

& i`m not talking about that cusom painted, speaker box mini ute thing with 2 honda engines in it, please don`t relate to that for this thread, that`s not what i`m talking about

i`m talking about a real sleeper with sneaky 500hp turbo injected honda power plant under the std-ish body looking thing

surely someone has the nuts & money & time to just spend Kazzillions on a super dooper turbo honda donk & shove it into a relatively std-ish mini yeah???

sooooooo,,,, how come??? What`s going on there???

Not that i`m a fan of Honda donks in bricks, just that i thought that by now we should be seeing quite a few, am i just not looking in the right places or what???

Ok, it`s late & i`ve had a few, but i`m not going to bed till i get an answer,,, or maybe i will *smiley* goodnight *smiley*

imagine th main reason is money. on a post a while back build costs were discussed (on teh 16vminiclub) and most honda builds were 10k+ almost all the big money builds were honda, sinking another 5k+ into an already expensive build would put alot of people of :)

Hi,
No disrespect to anyone or their car, but you could by a lot of something else for £10k, and it wouldn't rust as quickly! *surprised*

Hi,
I don't doubt it Carl. I guess I shoud add I certainly wouldn't put 10K into a Honda powered Mini, if what I've heard about the handling is anything to go by.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
I don't know. I just remember a video on here from a guy in the states. They're out driving on the roads. I remember him saying the handling on them wasn't as good and you could see the difference round the corners in the video. I've got an idea one of them took a trip into the secenery *surprised*

suspension setup matters alot. as it will with any a-series motor. my engien and gearbox is lighter than the a-series it replaced, my frame is about the same weight as the frame it replaced, i balanced the CofG of the engine/box combo with the centre line of the bodyshell so my car has naturally near perfect corner weights.. Even vauxhall minis, possibly the heaviest of the lot, can be made to handle well. the trouble is there isnt the same knowlege base to draw upon as you would have if you had stuck with the a, so development is slower and more costly. Just becasue one person couldnt achieve the desired result doesnt meen its impossible.

Please dont turn this into another a-series Vs hybrid bitchign session.

1st to provide proof of a running Bimmy Conversion!

Brisbane ,Australia

opened a can of worms have i???? *smiley*

hee hee,,, well i actually didn`t meant too,,, the fact is that with the couple of drag civics that i`ve seen pulling wicked times with their 500hp turbo honda donks, i just figured that it would only be a matter of time for one of those sorts of power plants finding it`s way under a mini bomnnet,,, maybe more time is needed then yeah?

& Jordan,,, i specifically asked that particular car to not to be brought up on this topic thread thingy ,,,OK??? Now back to the naughty step for you, that`s just not Assseptable *smiley*

Evolution... i actually agree with you,,, but to a point,,, i expect to see some decent honda conversions comming out of the woods pretty soon, light enough & well balanced, the common problem i`ve noticed is that there are quite a few people quoting the weight figures, but in most of the cases i`ve seen (obviously i havn`t seen them all) but the ones i have seen so far are far heavier & have unbalanced the car dramaticly.

I do believe that a decent honda donk conversion "Could" be done nice, light & balanced , just that i`m yet to see one.

My Turbo Alloy V8 mini is certainly not a balanced car by any means & it was never really meant tho... so please don`t throw that one back in my face ok? That conversion started out from a $10 bet.

What I think i`m leading to here is all the little things that add up, the honda power unit, box & all would have to be heavier yet i`m being told by all the people who are doing it that they`re lighter than the mini power unit,,, then we have a fairly big wiring loom (compared to the minione) then all the dash & instruments & brakets & bits & bobs & then all the manifolds & turbo & then the bigger brakes & bigger wheels & so on it goes,,, there`s more in those conversions than the basic dry weights of the "Main" parts,,, it`s all the other bits that hang off everywhere else that no one seems to be adding into the equation

just the way i`m seeing things i suppose tho,,, i`d really like to see the end results of a turbo honda converted mini & have the car end weighed, a front weight & a rear weight compared to a front weight & a rear weight of a turbo a series mini

do you all get what i`m saying here?

& yes, i understand the restraints of lack of funds & the time it takes for a "Decent" 500hp turbo honda powered mini would create,,, i just thought there`

jesus mate, heard you the 1st time. im runnign a rover 16v lump btw. much lighter than the honda engines *wink*

you also gotta understand that high power honda lumps are not as common over here as they are in the states or that. i go to my local strip most every weekend its open, i could count the number of turbo'd hondas i have seen over the last few years on one hand. and wiht the lack of people trying the development becomes slower still.
