Hi All,
I got some feedback from one of my Youtube films by Stevebenross to come and join turbominis! So here I am!

My Smart is a bit special because I'm running a stock MG Metro engine, but not turbo at the moment.

I am interested is retro fitting a turbo if anyone has some advice using the MG lump.

Hope to speak to you all soon.

Regards,
Ferrina.

Could be quite cool as a turbo - would make it fairly quick!

smart with an mg engine? That must have been a fair bit of work to get that in, and a strange choice of engine. Sounds great though, do you have any pics?

Hi,
Welcome to TM :)
I would imagine the MG engine has more (and cheaper) tuning potential than the Smart lump?
Although I'd be interested to know how you're going to get it through an MOT?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Well, the car is all road legal, Taxed and MOT'd! Just looking for some upgrades to make it fly. I've had 85 out of it, but it was pushing it. It's not quick, but if I turbo it, it should make it a bit more fun!
I've got all the build pix and blog on www.myspace.com/smart1275gt (if you have myspace accounts?)

And why not indeed! I just love the engine and the sound, not bothered too much how fast it goes. I've owned seven Mini's over the years and an MG Metro Turbo, long before the modding scene took off. Since then I've owned Civic's and Celica's, but I have company cars (Fords), I got into Smart car tuning and modification with my four Smarts since 2001. This was a mix of old skool tuning with a modern rot free chassis. I don't have time to renovate another car from scratch!!!

Hi and welcome,

I've been on here 9 months now and have been amazed at the depth of knowledge (compared to the other Mini forums).
I "got back" into Minis despite the engine being a 50 year old design because a Mini was my first car...
I also like to do something different hence my project being not only turbo but EFi as well (if I ever make it work...)
Enjoy

Yeah, it certainly seems to be a great forum and website for all things Turbo!!

Have you seen www.a-serious.com? Another good source for A series engined cars. I'm on there too.

So, after a quick spin last night, my water pump has decided to go pop. that will get replaced next week. BUT! I really want to convert my engine to a turbocharged version, so what parts would I need to take a stock MG Metro engine to MG turbo? Mine is the 10.5:1 version with a big valve head, so I'm guessing de-compression plate, turbo manifold turbo and inlet. Any breathing or oil cooling required?

basically you have the idea,

although it would be better to have the chambers in the head enlarged, will probabbly work out about the same price, and will be cheaper on headgaskets in the future as there will only be one.

if you want to up the boost much from std you need to be looking at up rated diff's especially in your RWD. application,

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Well, I've had a look tonight and I need to cut out a section of the rear chassis to get the carb inside the engine bay. I need a turbo oil cooler set up and an fuel pressure regulator. Modify the exhaust down pipe ad an oil feed and return pipe. Air filter mods and away we go!! I guess an uprated cross diff pin will do the trick?
Any advice welcomed.

Cheers guys.

have a little search on here mate, you;ll probably be suprised to find that most dont run an oil cooler. just get a gauge and keep an eye on it, if it does start to get too high then you will want to start thinking about fitting one.
