Anyone know of the easiest way to get the baffles out of an RC40?

I had the box off and tried a small chisel but with no luck!

Cheers

A resonance silencer has baffles. These baffles create chambers that deflect the pressure waves towards the resonance chamber which is sized for the correct frequency. This effectively 'cancels out' the noise. These types of silencer create back pressure which is undesireble on high performance engines, but not detrimental to the engines operation.

Straight through silencers use the absorption method of reducing the noise. The silencer is made up of a perforated tube and a glass fibre medium that absorbs the pressure waves.

If you have a staight through type silencer, and you remove the perforated tube and the glass packing, you might as well have a straight bit of pipe. If you just remove the glass packing, the absorption effect of the silencer will be greatly reduced, and will be too loud for a road car, and for many trackdays excluding the drag strip, where no one seems to care anyway if you burst the ear drums of the general public.

If the silencer is too quiet for your needs, and is ftted to a turbo, I recomend the Genuine Playmini 2" system, this is loud, but not overly.

As Paul asked before, Why do ou want to do this???

This is not normal*oh well*

Well, as i said id like it to be abit louder, its an old exhaust which i wont be using when my turbo motor is in, which hopefully wont be too far away.

So i just wanted to make the car sound louder for the time being as im bored of it. I wont be doing any trackdays or anything in it while its n/a so im not bothered about that.

Thanks for clearing up that its not baffles inside. Any ideas how i get the other stuff out?

Nah its just a straight through 2" system with I think a playmini side exit.

And its not already loud enough?*oh well*

I have the Playmini 2" backbox. I had that with a cat converter and a mid section silencer, wasnt what you would call loud, but it still set car alarms off without trying. I removed the cat and the mid section silencer, and it then was LOUD!

Just because it makes more noise doesnt mean it goes any faster*happy*

Nah its not really its suprisingly mundane, it is a standard 1275 after all. But whatever i think ill get ben to cut it and we'll take them out that way and see what its like.

Im gutted that taking them out wont make it faster though..

To disquise my Straight stainless exhaust i slid the outer of an RC40 exhaust over the top, inside is 2 sections filled with horse hair shit. Just rip it all out. I did this yonks ago, it does make the exhuast note throatier.

Hi,
Depends on the wadding, I should think the fibreglass stuff should burn, but the stainless wadding won't.

I think he means that by just burning the fibre wadding out it would make it louder, leaving the stainless mesh cylinder in place.

I can't see that you would be able to set the wadding on fire no matter what you did to it. It is designed to live in an exhaust system after all..........
