Well, Where do I start?

Droving to Colchester to see uncle ray and all seemed in order.
Got to the mini roundabout just before the industrial estate, change down a gear and the clutch pedal goes soft. I struggled to get in into gear, just about goes in and just make it to T&M.

It seems that something in the clutch has collapsed, allowing the arm to throw so far out that the piston in the slave popped out, pissing all of the fluid onto the floor.

Great.

Luckily I opted for the recovery service as part of my insurance package, so I gave them a call and the nice lady at the other end of the phone said that a recovery lorry would be there within an hour.

So, in the meantime, we asked Ray if he could run my friends 1100cc clubby to pass the time and get some sort of result out of the day.

Just as he pulls it up to the rollers, the clubby starts to piss out water!! The pump was leaking.

Great

Recovery lorry turns up, loads up my car, but as we are just ready to pull away the NS right type decides to let all of it's air out.

Great

Come home to find my family in pieces because my Nan has passed away.

Great

All in all, one shitty day.

Sorry for the rant. Any ideas on the clutch? bearing?

urm not sure about your clutch but yo should be able to get the wok off without taking engine out.

Yeah wok can off without removing the engine, but the bottom 2 bolts are really really difficult to get at cos of the subframe.Only way I managed it was by bending a 13mm spanner so the end was 90degrees to the shaft.

13mm? Do you mean 11mm.

I undo the engine mount on that side, undo the two steadys and jack the engine up, to get to those.

Right, the wok is off, the release bearing looks ok (to my untrained eyeballs).

Could it just need re-adjusting, or do you think that something has shat itself?

Just spoke to Joe (mini13) and he suggested (as Carl did above) that the arm might be at fault.

And...

You are both correct.

Any one got a spare pre-verto arm?

I thought that was the case, but apparently the new ones are made of cheese.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your loss :(
The arm looks very roughly machined, looks like could it have cracked across one of the grooves?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

leeds/wakefield.

It looks like the chinese have done aniother bad job of the heat treatment, [nothing new there] it is clearly hardened through ,making it brittle,
the origional rover BL ones would bend along the length of the ball end, but not snap.

sorry to hear it mate. chin up though it looks like your working through it which is the best thing to do.

get a new genuine arm on it like the others have said and get it back on the rollers. hopefully that might put something good on the table for ya.
