Any body got any suggestions on how to reduce my under bonnet temps. After 20mins of steady (still running in) driving the bonnet & scuttle panal are too hot to touch. As I open the bonnet the heat hits you.

I will be moving the air filter to grill area very soon, just waiting on hose joiners etc.

I was thinking ducting cold air to turbo etc. maybe raise the bonnet at rear? Reflective sheeting on bonnet?

How about an ERA scoop and the ducting you were speaking of?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Raising the back of the bonnet doesnt work, there is a post somewhere about it.

What about some louvres in the scuttle? And some small pc fans for on idle to draw ths heat out?

I have had an idea for the metro to do the same as above out of the drivers side front duct.

I don't fancy cutting up my orginal bonnet, I also want to keep the standard look on the outside.

Why dont raise bonnets actually work?

raised bonnets do work but not as expected,

first, apparently they create a fair amount of drag,

the windscreen creates a high pressure area which pushes air into what would be the turbo area here and out of the sides, I think it also disrupts the air coming in to the rad though.... swings and round abouts.....

It could be worth adding a small duct from the front to the turbo area ( as well as the ducted turbo inlet) just to knock the edge off the temps in that area. possibly with a small fan in to kick in at idle.

Its not a Mini, but the A35 has a similar problem.I think its mostly that the air cannot get out of the engine bay, rather than trying to get more in, so I have louvred the bonnet, which definitely helped. Not everyone likes the look, it has to be said.

As mentioned, when I open the bonnet after a "progressive" drive the heat makes you step back.

My air inlet to the turbo is directly behind the grill. I have a ducted airflow to the turbo, from the grille and I have sealed all the gaps around everything so that ALL the air coming through the grille goes through either the rad, the intercooler, the duct to the turbo, or the air intake.
You might be surprised at how much air can be "wasted" if it leaks around the intended path.

I've got the raised zeemax bonnet on my roundnose and ducting from the grill to underneath the turbo upwards to force cold air up and out

the PC fans going to be added on a switch to draw more heat away from the engine bay when stationary

that along with a electric fan aswell as mechanical for the rad and to the hole on the drivers side engine bay
along with an oil cooler up front helps alot keeping temps down

cooler thermostat (74) & decent coolant + oil was a must for me as its a summer car

sexy engine bay btw *happy*

Increase the roads speed matt, you must think on at the moment ambient. Air temps are like sharm El shake in egypt, over the the top

If you're not goin to use the duct for cabin air on the left (in photo) then you could put an extraction fan there to draw out some heat.

Too be fair to was 30oC yesterday, and I was cruising around town in 30mph zones. Air inlet temps were 42oC at plenum on cruise though.

Seal off the radiator to the inner wing so the air that has gone through the rad has to exit the engine bay, it makes a huge.difference trust me

thats a good idea, now just need to figure out what material to use
guess you could mount it to the rad shroud
but getting a good seal to the inner wing and making sure it doesnt bang around is akward no?

looks easier on the clubby but would need to be able to flex slightly as the engine rocks when
accelerating or braking
solid engine mounts/steadies?

those look good and would suit your engine bay too
easy to make cheap with steel but making them pretty is probably high on the agenda looking at the rest of it *happy**surprised*

Head gasket package and gaffer tape worked a treat on the metro van. Might not be quite in keeping with this car...

Lol

im going to put it out there for thin steel with a rubber edge similar to the stuff used on sills to seal against the inner wing?

orrr the same sort of plastic thats used for engine "weather shields" ?

All the ideas seem ok, just try some card or wedging the bonnet up and see if it cures it first before making something more permanent.

Don't like the look of the raised bonnet id rather have a few nice swaged holes on the back of it.

Theres a pic somewhere of my old bonnet, it had a vent from a fiat panda in the middle over the turbo/carb and once you had stopped the car form even what was only a 5 min journey you couldn't keep your hand over the vent for more than a few seconds !! The heat needs to go somwhere

Drill bits are blunt now need new ones so can't do that unfortunately!

An idea I just had was what about increasing the size of the LHD wiper holes with two small fans there? Just to draw out some heat? Still keep things looking clean rather than raised bonnet/holes/vents which may not be what you want.

Bit of a water trap no?
I just filled mine in and smoothed over the lhd holes
I'd lift the bonnet slightly and cut off the lip of the bonnet along the back if I didn't like the look of a slightly raised bonnet
May be worth doing that anyway for better flow?

I'm thinking an intake fan on the drivers side inner wing pulling cold air into the bay, ducted round to the back of the engine and then the rad fan should pull the hot air out. It's not like the rad fan isn't pushing extra hot air through the rad as it is now anyway.

Just seen the potential for an extra exhaust fan on the passenger side wing. Keep the airflow going one way when at low speed/idle. The airflow when driving normally should take care of the rest hopefully.
