Pistons are new old stock Hepolite Powermax Cooper S pistons. Vizard rates them so thats good enough for me, I also spoke to a prominant engine builder who aslo said they are good for the job. Obviously not as good as a forged piston, but this is more of a road car than a weekend racer.

It took me over a year to find these pistons, there is a place that has 8 on the shelf, but they want £75 each, might as well buy Omegas at that price. I paid 100 notes for these *happy*

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Anyway

Yesterday I got the oil pump, jackshaft, front plate and timing pullies fitted.

And today -

Yay, I am back in posesion of the head *happy*

Been busy tonight with other stuff but I couldnt resist placing the head on the block just to see how all my hoses line up *happy*

Everything is coming together exactly how I had planned it so far, well it should , I didnt spend three years doing nothing *tongue*

looking good. Can see why it's taken you a while to get it together. I saw your block and head getting fettled at the machinists a while back. Attention to detail is excellent.... makes mine look like it's thrown together!

When is Wirral Llandudno? Might try to get along.

The project so far.

The MPi poses new problems when it comes to mounting an alternator. I made a bracket up, drilled and tapped the normaly redundant bosses on the block. I had to modify the bracket slightly so that the alternator wouldnt foul it. I need to get a slightly shorter belt for a 998 to bring the alternator as close to the engine as it will ever get, it touches the block with slight adjustment.

I made up an adapter to re orientate the coolant outlet. Drilled and tapped the outlet to take a standard CLT sensor.

Modified an old oil relief back nut to accept a mechanical oil gauge. This nut is the same thread as the oil temp sensor fitted on MPi blocks - Bonus :)

Made up a simple bracket to take the MAT sensor, mounted ontop of the TB's

I made up a TDC pointer and marked up the pulley. The pointer is removable to make it easier to service stuff in the car *wink*

There are two un used bosses on the MPi block, not quite in the right place for an A+ alternator bracket. However, if you drill and tap them then fabricate a bracket, the problem of mounting an alternator goes away. Im not sure the MPi alternator would work in this manor, and the belt tentioner would have to be binned.

Indeed,

I spotted that bracket, good stuff.

first thing we're going to try is seeing if my spare 40A denso will fit with the rad moved forward slightly.

drill the engine mounts and move the engine back 12mm. The SPi and MPi engines sat 12mm further forward *wink*
