my pulley wheel that fastcarl sorted out for me! all in decent nick! the crap you can see on it in the pic is a special rubber glue i put on for safety on the rubber part of the pulley, at the end of the day these pulleys are'nt new & it cost me £4 for the special glue, i degreased it & painted it the same color as my belt drive case! ok aint it!

my edis components, all cleaned & hopefully they'll all work, its shit in the scrapper when its this wet & the guy wanted £20 for them, i'm gonna try to get a few sets in my bag next time

if ya have any advice about the edis stuff let me know, i've cleaned it all with a toothbrush & its gong above the boiler 2night to make sure there is no moisture in it anywhere, dont worry i did'nt wet them much i'm just doing it to be on the safe side!

Hi,
Use a new crank sensor plug and a long enough piece of cable to reach the module, don't extend that bit in the picture *wink*
Plugs are about £2 so not worth the problems it'll cause.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I don't like the centre-main-strap.

It's not been properly machined and the sharp edges will nock off the lock tab and ruin the threuts and the block.

Apparently Morspeed have a different, wider, strap with locationg slots in them. I advise buying one of these or dowling the thrusts.

See: http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=8012

I have extended all of my plgs and leads on all the installations I have done with no problem. Some with screned cable and some without.

Where do you get the plugs for £2?

its a morespeeds strap! i think it'll need some lil slots machined out as per axels, i like the dowel i dea though, looks a top solution, i'm having a good look at the block today & cleaning & painting it

if i need slots in the centre main strap for the thrusts i'll see if i can get it done this week,

pity i have'nt got a piller drill & a milling bit, it would do the job well damn!!! :(

it aint looking good for having it in & running for avon but if not it'll be at coombe or at curbourgh for a lil track action! it'll defo be at the dragstrips, i'm trying hard to get it at least running to make the trip to avon we'll see, i'll be there either way with a phone full of pics, bug ppl for hints n tips etc *happy* really enjoying this little project though i must say!

I've bought them before from vehicle wiring products in Ilkeston, they have a good mail order section, you have to buy the moulding, rubber boot and terminals seperately, they are no more than £2 though I'm sure.

Hi,
Always use a screened cable on the crank sensor never join it.
As it's a low voltage signal it can easily be altered by the cable picking up interference, of which there is plenty in the engine bay!
The best type of cable to used is screened twisted pair. Earth the braided screen at one end only (EDIS end) otherwise you've just made an aerial for the interferance!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

got a steel countersink bit from "good old" B&Q this morn & i've countersunk where the headstuds go by 1mm, all the studs went in & out fine & dandy after so alls well, i was nervous doing this to be honest! but simple enough, have no worries about doiing it again, this whole build is a massive learning curve on mini engines for me!

countersunk head-stud threads

also found some gauges in the garage, i have an electric & mechanical oil pressure gauge's, i think i'll use both if i can to be honest, oil pressure is that importent really is'nt it!!!

this is the sender on the leccy gauge

the gauge itself has 2-wires for the light & 3 other wires, where do they go, i see one go'd to the sender (above) but what are the other 2 wires???

i get my parts back from balancing 2moro *happy* thats a big step in the right direction really

i'm just trying to think what else to do to the block before assembly?????

a little more luck today chaps, managed to get some tool quality steel to make a centre main trap that'll work with grooves for the thrust locating tangs! hopefully it'll be ready tomorow! *happy*

i was given the tip to lightly file a radius on the outside edges of my endcaps! apparently it reduces stress in those areas, i dont see it causing any trouble so may do so! opinions appreciated!

right then chaps the 998 turbo engine build has finally started!!! woo hoo! all seems to have gone super smooth on the short block so far, just have to get seals for my belt drive & set the timing, not sure what to set it at for the mg-metro cam yet but i have a few idea's, i'm stuck with no gearbox for it at the mo, well not strictly without one but i have one but dont know the cond of it, it appears good but it'll be reconditioned to be safe, i'm considering doing it myself!!! it'll get a few upgrades to it aswell like central oil pickup & uprated diff pin at a minimum!!! so here some pics of my build so far

my threaded oilway plugs! sealed in with loctite 243 locking & sealing compound, hope it does seal it up *happy*

block all prepped n cleaned

bearings gone in

lubed ready to accept the crank

a worthwhile purchace engine stand, doe'nt bolt to the mini engine too good but its working ok so far!

balanced crank laid in!

centre mains strap & main cap in with new thrusts

mg metro cam & steelbacked hi-capacity oil pump in, also the engine plate located on with a new gasket

some shots of my 295 morespeed head, lets hope it does the buisness! it has standard rockers, new valves, converted to unleaded as its my daily-driver

more pics etc to come! lets hope minispares have some seals in!

as always any advice & info is greatly recieved!

me too clubman dan, i like your car by the way! *happy*

just a little tip for all! when was cleaning my block a casting flash fell off with the lightest touch!!!! that could have held in place & fell into the engine later-on causing tears at bedtime!
be sure to check over your block on an engine build very carfully & i'm a novice saying that!!! i was really suprised to be honest! just something that should have been cleaned off when the block was made i reckon!

nic cheers bud! green is the new red for fast motors ya know (like i'd frickin know haha) have you got any recent pics of ya engine bay at all nic?
