Mini GT 'Work in Progress'

Thought I would post some pics of my 1978 GT, I have been working on it for a while now, its still a non runner but I hope to get that sorted soon, and then finish the car off over the winter ready for next spring / summer.

Comments welcome *smiley*

Intercooler, dump valve and front mounted radiator still to fit.

You can just see the carbon roof *smiley*

Hi,
Looking good! I wouldn't use that blue car stereo cable as the main battery positive cable though, it'll probably melt!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

the copper core needs to be approx 9-10mm diameter for a batery cable.

yeah i didnt want it to look like a flip front with the clips showing down the side, i have the pins at the back of the bonnet and used Over centre Clips on the inner wing near the arch which pulls the two panels together.. took loads of time to get the panels as flush as they are.

I also forgot to mention, the paint on the car is due to change, i painted this as a base coat, and to protect the new bodywork, i have some TVR candy apple red to go over the top.. Still not sure weather to keep the white roof, or to go for grey, black or go back to all red.

Looks great.

I'd ditch the red altogether though.

We drove down to Banbury the other Sunday in my Sprite in Red with white roof and bonnet stripes.

I saw a total of three classic minis in red with a white roof and a number of Binis in the same guise. So common.

just been ogling your pics somemore,

make sure you put grommets where the wires and pipes pass through panel work when you do the final build

you would fail the mot for this, or even worse the car could short out, or have a leak

All im going to say is:

dusty outer cv joints? tut tut!

Ha, looks tops, flip front looks great, I have a pet hate for arches that have been cut in half to fit a flipfront.
Love candy apple red too, after seeing a charger sprayed it on overhaulin.

Agree with nic on the grommet front, especially where youve brought your fuel lines through the rear bulkhead (presuming thats what they are) if you havent already.
Id also be inclined to keep the fuel pipe one continuous length through teh cab, less chance of it whiffing of fuel.

Another point is the battery holder/bracket, again, if it were me, id just get a battery box, only a few quid..
As, if you ever did roll it, it might save egg (or more importantly acid) on your face.

Would you post a pic of the left hand side of the engine, so i can have a nosey at your coolant pipe?

Cheers

Hi Jo, i agree had some W&P arches to start off, and cut the front ones where the flip was.. big mistake, it looked shite. So went with what you see, think it looks loads better IMO.

That is a fuel line going through the rear bulk head, just out of shot is the return, ideally would of used one line, but this was way easier.. *oh well*

Take your point on the battery box, acid isn’t good, using this one because it fits the space.. might be a good idea to change it, will sort that when i get it running.

I got the font end about a year ago from mini speed... however it took loads of work to get it to fit, had to cut bits, extend bits etc etc.

No probs on the pic will get it done tomorrow, all the pipe work is metro stuff cut to fit.

There's no faster Mini than a red clubman. Very nice.

All that extra space at the front you get on a clubman though is screeming out for an intercooler.

Jo, sorry couldnt get the pic done today, will try tomorrow.

in answer to some of your questions,

I have an intercooler ready to fit, this will be done after i get it running but before a full set up, from the info i have read on here its a good addition to the engine bay :).

The screen inserts are from 'Phoenix Mini Parts' cost about £3.85 each, they can be contacted on 07789110419.

didnt want to much chrome so thought they were the way to go.

The arches are Group 5 i think, got them about a year ago, think you can pick them up from most places. i cant remember but i think i must have got mine from curley along with the roof, boot lid and rear valance.

again, thanks for all the positive reply's, just cant wait to drive it!!
