Ok so ive now got rid of the old 'Turbo Hearse' and have a truly MINT metro turbo (probably one of the best 10 in the country) which i was going to cut up for my pick up but im now going to leave it as a tro.

However i am going to go full on with the engine.

Basically i'll be taking my head to MBE for porting and chamber re-shaping (33cc sound ok?).

Im wanting to run 2 stage boost with 4 psi for everyday driving and around 15-16 psi reliably for the odd sprint.

What headgasket should i buy?

Lowest compression ratio going would be best that doesnt involve block mods.

So what is there and who should i buy from?

Thanks

Hi,
I'm no expert on this, but I don't think you can take theat much out of the head without reliablilty issues. I may be wrong but I don't think you'll need to take that much out for 15psi.
Head gasket is dead easy Payen BK450.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I've seen spacer plates on sale on ebay that you sandwich between two gaskets to lower the comp ratio- dunno if they're much cop tho! I think they come in either 6 or 9 cc versions, plus obviously head gasket. As for head gaskets... what bat said!

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

For big chamber heads speak to Stuart Gurr at Vmax Scart, he has done them up to around 35cc!!!

use the BK450, aim for 8.5 to 1 compression and get an intercooler on there.

there's a guy who has very unfortunatly trashed his metro torbo on here, the engine is up for grabs, would be nice to see it go into another mint metty...

lots of questions ???

these have all been coverd before and there are loads of pit falls so please get searching using the button at the top of this page and read the FAQ section as a start
bk450 as stated for the head gasket

if you are sticking with the standard bore size (ie) 1275 you need 28cc in giving you a CR of 8.4:1

the chambers i can provide this service for you at less than half the cost of the speed shops

to a full race head of which i cut many!

I think you have to look at the use of the car ..... 8.4:1 with only 4psi over it will be a truely unpleasant slug on the road.

With a decent intercooler you should be able to run 15psi over 9:1 cr with no problems and it will be a much nicer engine.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

You aint wrong there Roger...untill my RR im running 7 psi and mine is dog slow. When it was 9.4:1 its drove really well now at 8.3:1 complete dog to drive.

Im aiming to run around 15psi+ at 8.3:1, if all goes well. :)

Would avoid decompression plates like the plague!!

you want to be running the highist CR without det but....... the pit fall is................*frown*

many inexperienced peeps just love to wind thing up so
8.4:1 is a good start for the beginner *wink*

Well im no stranger to turbos having owned over 40 of them now but im also no stranger to blown head gaskets, liners (not a worry on a tro) cracked pistons, cracked valves and seats etc so i always aim for the lowest usable comp ratio.

We ran my vw camper at 7.0:1 *happy*

Hi,
I'd go for higher comp for daily driver as Roger said. I'm going to run standard comp (9.4:1) with 10-12 psi max modulated down most of the time.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

not fussed how it drives at 4psi as its going to be reliable at that pressure and 15psi for fun

What the guys are saying about low CR higher boost is true ... and if you want a weekend warrior or track car then it's the way to go.

However ..... here's a challenge for any of them ..... drive from where they are, in their Mini's to my place in Gloucestershire (just off the M5 so pretty much all motorway from anywhere), listerning to a new album and be able to learn the songs along the way.

A successful applicant, who will have to pass a lyric test and also be able to hum the major instrumentals, will get more tea and bacon sandwhiches than they'll know what to do with ..... but no head ache pain killers .... that will be their own problem!!!!!

*wink* :) *wink*

I used to do 200 miles per day in my Mini and it was always a joy.

If I wished to drive on the motorway I would not choose a Mini to do it in. Personally I don't try to make cars something they are not.

That is fine and dandy until it's your only car.

Now I am only skint rather than desperately skint I can just about juggle the credit cards enough to keep a couple of cars on the road ...... it's not always been the case for me and it's not the case for many, many people.

I think it is important that it is remembered that there are two sides to every story.......

Slammed has obviously now confirmed he is after a weekend warrior so 8.3:1 ish is going to be just the ticket.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

anywhere, mike will have plenty and probably cheap.

any motor factors can get you them.

I know MBE well (Mike) as i go there with my turbo.

Only the rollers again soon there. its 8:1 and last time there ran 15psi although had issues with it peaking at nearly 20psi. hoping to run around 20psi once done.

2 stage boost will be needed purely for launching the thing!!
