Hi I have a sportspack replica with the standard 4 spotlights, I am fitting an intercooler and I'm looking at putting it behind the grille ala turbo dave, but will the spotlights create a massive restriction in cooling? I really want to keep the spot lights but want reasonable cooling without cutting bonnet holes, if anyone knows what the airflows like or has any theorys I'd like to hear them,

Cheers, Kav

a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

for intercoolers to be effective you need to get a good flow of air accross the face of the cooler, however pending on what boost you are running anf the cooler itself the lights may not impead flow enough to matter.

remember the air must be able to flow through the cooler so you also need to consider what is behind it *wink*

hope this info helps, its just my understanding of it

edit: ave you considered charge cooling ? plenty of em on ebay :) it is less crucial where the unit is placed then.

Hi,
I've been told the standard spots on the sports pack reduce air flow through the rad, so they're going to do the same to an I/C

Well I was going to put an rst series 2 cooler directly behind the grille on the offside, obviously their will be some kind of resriction, but will the air not flow into and then aroound the lights and back into the grille, or will it flow around and over the bodywork.

Cheers, Kav

Hi,
You'll get some air going through the grille into the I/C, but the more of the intercoolers surface that gets the air blown onto it the better it works *wink*
The RST I/Cs are very good, so you may not have a problem anyway.
The only way to know for sure is to fit it and test it!
Can you post up some pics, as I've got to do the same to mine, please?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Yer I'll try and get some pics up later this week, might be tricky tho with clutch hydraulics and brake servo, but I'll give it a whirl.

what you could do is get a works style lamp bracket, then you can take the spots off pretty easily.

this is what i have done working on the asumption that in the winter when i need the spots the cooler weather will out weigh the loss of airflow. see linky

Hi,
I reacon the works lamp bar would help anyway as it moves the lamps away from the grille....
