i am removing the cylinder head off of one of my engines, i have removed all of the head nuts, taken the rocker off all that is left is one sparkplug in and the valves there but i cant seem to get the head off. it moved a very small amount on one side but not the other. i didnt particually want to use a hammer to try and get it free as i dont particually want to damage the head.
i was wondering if anyone had tricks they use to get the head off, this is my first time removing a head from a mini and i must say its alot harder than a 206,307.407,106, rover 214 ect lol.

i have looked on the search but i couldnt find anything of help to me

Have you undone the bypass hose?

Malta (Ex. Scotland)

Give it a tap with a wooden mallet,or hold a piece of wood on the head then hammer on that.

Absolutely! That's the first mistake. Has it lifted then jamed or is it still tight down? Sometimes it jams on the studs once it's up a bit as the studs spring out or if it's lifted up off-square.

the front middle stud has a tendancy on the mini to rust up.

a couple of options, either to remove all the other studs and spin the head off, and, or, use plusgas and allow it to soak.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Hi,
The front center head stud is a slightly larger diameter for some reason, I seem the remember reading somewhere...

I thought all the studs were the same size, but the front center hole was smaller, I may be wrong though.

Hi,
Rob ... I knew something made the clearance smaller, then rust up so you can't get it off! Your way round does make more sense! :$
Cheers,
Gavin :)
