What's the general feeling on this? Mine is still connected at the moment, but i know a lot of people block it off. Is there any advantage either way?

Many thanks.

Mine would lean out when going from a steady cruise to full throttle when it was connected.

I did some testing on this.

It really does not matter, it just leans the mixture a little at midrange for economy. If you ever polish a needle up, any effect it had will be polished out anyway. When selecting a needle I would just pick the one that works best with or without the leanoff pipe.

Hi,
I'd be tempted to polish the needle with it blocked off, then put it back on after.
Only if you can monitor the mixture though!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

There's quite a big difference... when I said a little I was not strictly trutheful!! The leanoff pipe does not affect 3/4 -full throttle but does change the rest. I ended up with quite different needles.

but hey, I only tried it once..

It's the shiny black one that goes from the side of the carb to the top of the carb.

It is the external rubber pipe on a proper turbo SU that loops round from one stub to another on the carb itself, only about 5" o/a length.

I had most luck running it through a solenoid - closing it when i wanted to plant the throttle, and opening it other times. Was a PITA though, so off it came.

Could there be some cleverness possible here, with a MJ output setup to close this solenoid at high load points determined by the MAP sensor, and then open it again at cruise points again determined by the MAP sensor?

Can these be retro fitted to NA HIF carbs? or is it something that only works under boost?

Can't see why not, because even on a turbo your generally running vacuum on cruise and not boost.

EDIT: Or I could be talking utter shite! *laughing*

ric you young stud ,check this out .

slight edit on this , i now have a t piece in the pipe from the front to the side ,and this goes to a adjustable valve in the car ,with a servo one way valve on it so it doesnt blow boost in the car .

I have changed my mind on this since my post further up.

Yes you can make it work with or without the leanoff pipe its just a matter of having the right needle but what i found was that the leaning effect of the pipe caused a problem at part throttle, full boost. If you try to correct that then the mixture at full throttle gets too rich.

After lots of experiments I have decided that its best to block it..
Mind you thats with My engine and turbo, maybe yours is different..
