Has anyone saved money by welding pipes together then just using samco hoses at the ends for the connections to the intercooler etc..? If so do you have pics?

Thanks, Robbie

got no pics to hand, but yes. I used large cooper piping with bends, it was a cheap way of doing it as we had them.

Ohh okay, in the intercooler pipes, is it high pressures or just freeflowing air?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

its not high pressure under 30 psi in most cases! ............... if you have the time and and skills go for the pipe options

I got one of the local 'custom' exhaust places to bend me some pipes and weld them together.

It wasn't that expensive.

Malta (Ex. Scotland)

But won't the spatter from the weld interfere with smooth airflow?
And obviously the step from pipe to silicone and back does just the same right.

My welding is shocking and silicone pipes from ebay were quite cheap so it was an easy choice for me.

If you have the skills go for it.

Here's mine... http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...tid=214804&fr=0

Hi,
I've made a very long and twisty inlet manifold from the alloy bends on ebay / Merlin and had them tigged together by the local place *wink*

Cheers,
Gavin :)

A few pics of my RST i/c install.

The i/c shroud, brackets and pipework are all home made.

The air intake to the i/c is via three holes in the RH side of the bonnet.

The shroud stops the air from escaping into the engine bay as it enters through the bonnet. All of it goes through the i/c to improve its effectiveness.

Hope the pics help.

Richard.

And this one is equally as good:

Just finished fitting my intercooler.Fabricated the pipes from some old XJR1200 motorcycle downpipes as they were the perfect inside diameter.
The pictures are of the pipes, the modified plenum pipe and test fit on my spare engine and the final fit on the car itself.Just need to get some jubliee clips tomorrow so I can test it.
There is about 5mm spare inside between the top of the intercooler and the bonnet when it is closed.

Thanks for the quick replies. This is what I was looking for!
can you use filler on these just to smooth off the edges or do they flex to much?

Hi,
Shouldn't flex at all if you do it right, ie good welds and not getting flexed due to bad fitting...

Gavin :)

Why would you want to use filler? surely a decent weld with good penitration can me flatted off with a sanding disk on a grinder?
Cheers

lol kk, instead of chopping and welding could I cut 3/4 of the way through the tube then bend it then weld and keep doing this to make a smooth bend?

Yup, I've just done the same with my downpipe :) Probably want to cut it nearly all the way through though *wink*
