Hi guys,
i'm having a little problem when in traffic which i think a electric fan will sort out. I've got a 2 core rad in the normal place. i have a 4 blade metal fan which works find on the move but not when standing still. Any good cars to find a well fitting fan on? I have heard metro fans fit nice but i have never tried one.
Have people had any joy with ducting the air out like the clubmans used?
cheers

TBH rather than finding one i'd pay the 40 quid for a spal on ebay as it will be thinner and less likly to touch the wheel.

Either as above like the guys say, or the carb coopers and the SPI minis had a large fan mounted in the inner wing, you could fit one of these?

The combination of the Mk1 shrouding and a decent sized fan in the wing is working well for me

I have been out on a couple of 90 degree days and no sign of overheating now, the fan only kicks in during waits at lights and soon switches off once I get moving.

I ditched the standard yellow fan and bought a Pacet fan which fits between the side mounted radiator and inner wing without any modifications. I had a slight issue with overheating when stood still for a few minutes until I changed to a 74 deg. stat and now I don't have any problems.

I'm using an 82 degree but its a high flow one that flows more when open. Also I run water and water wetter in the summer, i.e no anti freeze.

I always questioned the use of low temp thermostats because they dont actually affect cooling efficiency, just the start point...
The difference being I guess, that for a given temp the lower ones are slightly more open.

As it is I can see where the thermostat regulates to on the guage and when under way thats where it stays...even when the ambient is in the 80's. If I used a lower temp stat the engine would be running too cool most of the time.
