Just treated myself to a new PC, nothing special just a basic unit. It's using Windows Vista.

Is there an easy way I can transfer stuff from the old one onto the new one, pics and stuff are easy enough as I could use a memory stick, however I have over 5GB of music on my iTunes. Can I just connect them up using the network cable and copy across?

Any help appreciated!!

Hi,
Have you got a router for your broadband?
If so there should be 3 spare network sockets on the back. Just plug your new PC into one and use the windows file and settings transfer wizard...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

itunes is a little tricky, you have to copy accross the itunes folder which is kept inside your profile on your old pc.

C*happy*ocuments and Settings%username%My DocumentsMy MusiciTunes

copy that entire folder and then paste it to your new pc. you can use a usb hard drive or as bat says connect via the network, but you might have to create a share on the new pc and in vista thats a bit different than XP. dam windows security!!!!

if its only 5 odd gb you could always burn it to a cpl of DVD's, at least then you have a backup to stick on the shelf too.

if your old pc doesnt have a dvd burner you could always put the one out of your new machine in it for the burning.

im guessing the new machine is SATA and the old PATA? if there is a spare PATA socket on the new machine (unlikely if its SATA) you could just plug your old harddrive into the new machine and copy everything off that way.
