Right, I posted a while ago about the 2" system i've bought
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=235053
But I have a new problem,

I did a trial fit to sort out my home made stainless downpipe and couldn't figure out how the rear bit is supposed to hang...

It appears to use the MPI hanging system (which I obviously don't have on an early subframe) but when I looked at MS's pics of "std to MPI" brackets, it didn't entirely make sense....

I can't really associate those pics with this....

Maybe the first one if the MiniSpares picture is reversed/mirrored but I really can't figure out the second one.... Is the bracket "inside" the subframe ???

So, has anyone got an MPI rear subframe off they could photo the exhuast mounts for me please....

The top one goes at the front of the subframe

The lower one mounts on the rear rail, inside out.

They do fit, just order them and be done with it, LOL.

Well, I can't fault that for a quick answer Tom...

So why do Minispares have to have their (first) picture the wrong way around.....

EDIT - and don't anyone say "because you're lying upside down under the car when you're trying to fit it....
(end EDIT)

Another frustrating day.

unbolt the bit above the handbrake cables where youve cable tied thro in the first picture bolt the bracket on then just fit a conventional type support rubber mount , ms will sell them as well i suspect. not to sure on the rearest one but will fit the same. i say order them and 2 rubbers and then youll easy figure it out. they do polywhatsit rubber mounts but i dont know if you need them

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Hi,
That looks just like mine only I've cable tied the rubbers to the subframe! *surprised*
Passed an MOT like that too :)
I've got an MPi subby to go on so I never looked into it :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Thanks all,

I think from Tom's comment "The lower one mounts on the rear rail, inside out" I've figured it out from the MiniSpares photos.... mirror images and back to front.

The real reason I wanted to be sure was to get the front to back length right as I'm making up a custom stainless 2" downpipe from the turbo.

Different to the standard 1 3/4" or 2" mild steel as I'm using an I-lock flexible instead of the "normal" knuckle joint.

Hi,
I've got to fit my MPi rear subby this week for the exact same reason.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Dont bother with those shitty rubber bands. fit the original mounting brackets and bobbins and use a stainless jubilee clip in each to secure the silencer.

Those rubber bands will crack the down pipe if you dont have the flex joint, and, whole exhaust will hang lower, which is no good on them monsterous speeping policemen

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thanks all,

Of interest (now that I know what I'm looking at) there's very little price difference between MiniSpares, MiniSport and P&L (the only three I compared, others probably sell them too) but, while searching the MiniSpares catalogue I found they sell just the rod parts seperately to weld straight to the subframe as per MPi and they are much cheaper.

So I think I'll buy a couple of them too and weld them onto my spare subframe once I've used the conversion brackets to find out exactly where they go.

Sprocket - it looks like the rod welded to the silencer at the front would be just where the band clamp would need to go if I used the older hanging method and I don't want to grind it off. I will be using a flexi at the front (between downpipe and link pipe), a stainless I-loc flexi, not a knuckle joint.
