TurboMinis wikipedia.

Had this idea the other day, to create a TurboMinis wiki.

Now for this to be successful will require people to get involved, but then on the other side it will provide a place where information is stored and easily available for new users to find, and thus hopefully cut down some of the numpty questions we get time and time again.

Thoughts?

Al, can you create an area for this, where all users have rights to add text, and then perhaps only a few can remove stuff?

Sounds like a good idea.
Sort of an area where the title is just something like bleed valve (just for example)

Then in the thread you have information on:
1) What it is
2) What it does
3) What the advantages are
4) What the disadvantages are
5) Other options (possibly linking to different threads in the section)
6) Maybe even a fitting guide.

Would be a VERY good source i think!

The boring bloke who runs this place.

Berkshire

We could just install a Wiki (same as wikipedia)

Not a prob. As long as people want to contribute anyway, pointless doing it if it will sit empty.

Sound like a plan, if it cuts down on the same old newbie questions. :)

Maybe not really relevant but when someone posts a thread in the forsale section say (or even when they hit the post new thread button), what about having a popup that asks if they have read the forum rules (like location and price etc)? And likewise when they post a new thread in the help needed they get a popup asking about if they have used the search function and checked the FAQ? May help cut down numptyness.

things such as working out compression ratio and cc would be usefull for the new comers.

and stuff like converting carbs.

Although its alreaddy on here, it seems that people dont hesitate to ask the question before looking.

how to read compressor maps.

diagrams of how the metro turbo setup is works out.

im just trying to think of the stuff i was after when i first started building engines.

Strangely I was thinking of a similar thing, but instead of a wiki just have an index page that links to useful threads kind of like I've tried to do with my sig.

we have this in my supra club, also when you create a new 'technical' question asking how to fix stuff when you enter the tittle of the thread, it does a search and brings up a list of similar thread titles, and you can guarantee the answer to the question is in them already created threads,

i dont have a clue how its done but it really cuts down on the stupid questions and maybe worth considering,

maybe a bit off topic but i thought worth a mention *wink*

sounds like a good idea to me, i was most of the way through doing a numpty's guide to turbo conversions for shittyfinity but never got round to finishing it. could always get it done and see if its worth adding.

Hi,
I like the idea, as long as the wiki is well organised.
Unless the info is dead easy to access, people won't bother to look!
The pop up search when posting is also a good idea but as a few threads seem to go off on a tangent maybe the wiki would be better *wink*
I'd be happy to contribute :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Good idea. Helps having permanent pictures in one place, some links on posts do get lost or change.
