I know alot of people make sure they dont add up how much cash theyve spent so far/ in total on their projects, to save having a nervous breakdown.

I too managed to stay well away from the calculator, but something possesed me just now and i added things up.

I had to do this a few times to make sure it was right, but my total comes to around about £6000*oh well*

I've still got panels to replace, ligthening bits and paint aswell other stuff to go yet. It's quite scary really how ive managed to spend that much cash and the car is just about complete.

Cant help thinking of other cars i could have got with the money but oh well!!!

If youre brave enough or all ready know, or even if you want to say - how much have you spent?

Rich

I passed the 10k mark about a year ago. That does include 5 engine rebuilds, 2 resprays. And the usual gubbins! *oh well*

Look at it another way, If you wern't wasting money on the mini it would be on something else.

I stopped totalling recipts last year when I got to 5k, and I have built an engine with some nice parts since then.

My first mini had 8 thousand piled into it by my brother, someone crashed into it and it was written off. i brought it for the scrap value and did the brakes, suspension and re pairing for 1200 pounds.

my current run around mini i brought for 1000 200 pound getting it tru the mot and another 4000 on an engine and gearbox.

my current project is just in its starting stages, but very maximum of 3k and probably another 4000 on the engine.

my first mini cost £800 and was a minter, been fully restored 11 months before i bought it, with about £2000 worth of receipts

then i spent about a £1000 getting it how i wanted it, did good for as long as it was a 998cc (about 2.5 years), in that time i managed to spend a good £2000 on building a turbo engine/box lasted me 7 months, blew it up at mitp 2007 :( it cam home into storage...i had no other engine as i gave it to wil_h *hehe!*

then i blew about 9k on a supra... another story lmao

sold that bought a 1275gt, its quite solid but the body needs doing asap, i have spent about payed £900 and spent £200 fixing the bodges (like 2 drivers side front arches ) *frown*

my first mini cost a total of £3800
my second £1100

the first mini is being restored and i have 90% of the body work done and i am at about the £500 mark, looking to put about another £1k into the car and about £2k engine to start with *hehe!*

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

What is obviously true that buying a finished car is almost always the cheapest thing to do

But... I feel that just owning a nice car is a bit empty. I am in this hobby for the tinkering. skinned knuckles and the pride I have in producing a finished product. It keeps me amused for years and I cant think of a better way to spend my money..

What I have found id that If you do EVERYTHING yourself (bodywork, painting included) then the costs can just about be recovered for your next project.. but if you pay anyone to do any of that stuff you will probably loose out in the end.

er, this is a hard question! the mini project i supose is to go faster and its all about what i have found out over time so the current car is an evolution of the first mini, as such i would random guess at about £30,000 or £40,000 ish. but in reality it would cost to built my car about £10,000

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

My original intention was to make it quicker than an imprezza for less

These days you can get an imprezza easily for £4k

Damn

I've spent about €12K on mine so far. I still need proper seats, a rear subframe and some suspension mods
