hi, as im rebuilding the shell i will be putting a turbo box (obviously for the turbo) and a single weber box into the bulkhead. will be using the weber box for extra clearence, and also i may fit a different engine in the future. the car has an spi front subframe

inside the car i want to fit a sportspack 6 clock dash (with cd player)and standard heater. can anyone tell me will the alterations to the bulkhead foul on the dash/heater setup, before i start cutting? many thanks

you will have to relocate the heater brackets to allow fitment of a heater and it will fit slightly further forward than it used to.

as per the dash and the webber box i am not too sure but i didnt think that webber boxes where that deep so i wouldnt have thought it would be a problem.....waiting to stand corrected though.

I would have thought the weber box would stop your cd player going in. If its the type of dash that the cd player is positioned centrally.

Pretty sure my weber box is atleast 6 inches deep.

I think it depends on where you buy them, or how deep you make it if your making it yourself.

I have the long weber manifold so needed the deep box.

I guess if you ran a shorter manifold the box wouldnt have to be as deep. But I still think it would be in the way of a cd player mounted there.

crumbs. think i might have to leave the weber box then. will look daft with a big hole in the dash! have read somewhere that the spi subframe will give me enough clearence between carb/bulkhead. cheers for the pics ben, looks a nice project

Hi,
I used a battery box for my Weber box and it was just deep enough. From the dash side it almost came to the back of the dash rail, so you won't get a cd player in there, maybe tight on the back of the 3 centre gauges too.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Im afraid not mate, not yet anyway.

Have plans to do it once the cars on the road, build up another engine, maybe a T2 so I dont have to touch anymore bodywork.

Hi.

If they're still of use, I've attached an engine bay shot and an interior shot of the heater to show you my set up mid build (about Dec 05).

The engine bay boxes are i) a lengthened Avonbar Turbo box (lengthened by approx 2 & 1/2 ins so that the T3 actuator has more clearance) and ii) a DIT Weber air box to give me more room around the plenum.

The eng bay shot shows the boxes (which are welded in by the way) then lagged over the top with self adhesive 1/4 in thk gas turbine heat blanket then topped off with a piop rivetted rippled ali sheet bought from B&Q.

The interior shot shows a Mk 1 heater fitted on heater brackets cut from the original footwell area and repositioned on the back of the new Avonbar Turbo Box.

If you use the Mk 1 heater with its vertical slider, it wont stick out into the interior.

It is possible to fit the centre binnacle dash but in the limited space left, its unlikely you could fit a CD etc.

Good luck.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I couldn't get a CD player in the dash because of my weber box. You should be okay to fit some gauges though as long as they're not too deep. I recon you should have 80-100mm clearance between the box and back of the dash.
