Organising tools - how do you do yours?

Hello all,

I am expanding my tool box set as I progress my engine strip down/ build for the first time, and my collection really needs some form of organisation!

I was just wondering how each of you organise your tools, i.e. spanners, sockets, whether you use shelves, what you put and where basically.

I have noticed from halfords a neat little socket holding bracket, which you can rivet to the tray but what about storing spanners in the tool box. Also the range of sockets available is manic; imperial, metric, bihexigon, hexigon the list goes on!

Any opinions?

i keep all my sockets in their original case (these are metric though). All my imperial ones are kept on a little rack, whick should be on the wall but i keep it in a drawer with my random sized scockets and extractors (nut and stud!!)

I then keep all my ratchet spanners in their plastic trays ontop of the tool box.

My 'normal' spanner both metric and imperial are chucked in another drawer.

All the electrical stuff, crimps, wire strippers, cutters go in their own drawer.

then i have a deeper drawer that i keep all the rest of the tools in.

the final draw has my delicate tools in lol

this christmas (hint hint DAD!!!!!!) i want to extend my tool chest with a matching cabinet for everything else that is kept on the floor lol

Yeah currently I keep my imperial sockets (hexagon) in one and bixhexigon in another. With metric the same process.

Then spanners imperial and metric seperated again, but I hate having all my sockets and spanners lumped together in no particular order.

I want a perfect system set up, so its all sparkling and in alphabetical order lol.

(3) Scuffle around for half an hour trying to locate tool
(4) Back to (1)

i thought you garage was tidy compared to mine!

i keep all my tools in a pile on the floor. occasionally i'll chuck them all in a big box.

My tool box isnt big enough and it ends up as a big pile either on the floor, or in the top try, cannot shut any drawer

My garage is full of crap! worst is the MGBGT!

Hi,
A very expensive tool box with loads of drawers!
I've got the socket rack like yours and the spanner teeth.
Then there's the trolley with a 4gas and a Sun analyser with a desktop computer strapped to it!
Need a bigger workshop to put all this in!

Jesus Bat sounds like you've got the nuts setup there.

Im gonna rivet the rack and spanner teeth to the drawers, but thinking il need another toolbox the way im going as iv only got the 9 drawer clarke:

Yeah have read that Paul S but more after how tools are sorted and organised within the toolbox. But all is good will be riveting away next weekend

Im with Paul my box looks the same at work! Layed out so nothing gets lost and you dont spend an age looking for something!

in work my tools are layed out like that ^^ each tool has a specific slot in a tray or foam so i can tell at a glance whats missing. at home i fuck everything in a big bucket.
