Hi,

I am ordering my megajolt today and just wanted to double check what i need.

I have a Kent 296 cam, Im sure it is a MAP i need but wanted to check before i buy.

Also should i get a kit or fully made, my brother said he can put it together for me, he works in medical electronics.

Cheers

Jon

Would the 296 produce a stable enough MAP reading? I think philc might be the best person to advise but I reckon TPS with that cam.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

what is the rest of your setup. Though with that cam you will be better with TPS, others may disagree, but to get full advantage of your MJ you will need TPS. Any rolling road who says different imo is talking PAP. Also do a search you will find this has been addressed loads of times

The MAP will be ok, just you will not have the full function of the Megajolt which will read 2d and will only use part of the map, if you had TPS this would read 3d and use the full map which will help with advance and retard at the higher and lower rev range. If you can get the TPS which are around £65 then go with that, if not go with map. If you want to change at a later date you will have to put the components in for TPS and take out one of the resistors on the board.

Hi,

Looking at the pros and cons I thought I would just mention I am not really after a car that is giving every single horsepower possible.

I am just after a quick mini, so weighing up the costs I think a MAP would be cost effective as it will still be better than the dizzy etc.

If anyone thinks i making a big mistake just hit me now and i'll buy a TPS, just have to spend a little more.

TPS every time. MAP is a waste of time with a 300deg cam.

i would not say a waste of time... It does work but anything but wot will not be the best it can be... I have run mine with map for 2+years.

Only issue with using tps on an su is you need to make your own braket to hold the tps in place, where a weber you can buy a braket off the shelf if you wish

buy the tps... It will work much better on part throttle and economy will be better too... And overall a much nicer drive.

I will be swaping my map sensor out for a tps in the near future for the same reason.

O.k decision made, I am going with TPS.

Next step, how the hell do i fit it?LOL

I have ordered the crank sensor bracket off of Tom and have the toothed wheel already fitted to the pulley.

I need to by a TPS sensor, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also how do i then fit this to the carb, any pics. I handy at making stuff so i dont mind fabricating a bracket up?

Cheers

Here's a few pics, note I initially used an old scarp HIF 38 for mock up only to discover that the HIF 44 & HIF 38 casting have loads of subtle differences.

EDIT: Before anyone comments that you should you MAP with Forced induction the carb pictured below is for my clubby which will be running an Omex 500 which has both TPS & MAP inputs amongst others and the MJ in the picture was being modified for another TM member.

I am going to get it from america, a manager in my company travels there quite often so he is going to bring it back for me.

Going to buy it in a kit as my brother works in medical electronics and he is going to assemble it for me so i know it will work.

Cheers

Just to revive an old thread rather than make a new one...

I have a v4 MAP from when I was going to work on a turbo engine.. however, seeing as I have no space and no money to work on it it has to go.
However, I was thinking of keeping it for my clubby.
it s (currently) a 1293, weber 45, sw10 cam, stage 4 (?) head....
I want to whip out the engine next year to get it bored slightly bigger and get my sc/cr box on along with someother bits.
Thats when I'd put on the megajolt....
anyway.
is MAP a viable route with this setup... or should I swap over to TPS? is it easy to swap the components over in the megajolt to change it from one to the other?
Thanks.

tps imo, yes it is easy to swap over, their is a function in the software you need to change from map to tps, then you need to extend the map
