Well as I said in my steering fault thread I spent friday at Santa Pod doing a spot of testing. I have managed to completely lunch my cwp on a hard launch after the car hooked up rather well.

This has also managed to put a hairline crack around the diff casing and through the box so thats had it aswell. I assume that the pinion gear has tried to climb the crown wheel and broke all the teeth off.

As far as i can tell there isnt a 3.1 ratio uprated cwp. So i was going to retry another standard unit along with a KAD pinion support and hope for the best.

I took my idea from fastcarls thread.

The box hasnt cracked around the third motion shaft as far as I can see. Its a 3 bolt so is of the stronger design. Its cracked about an inch in from where the diff housing bolts to the main case. It almost looks like it has found a faultline in the casing.

I know the 3.1 and 13's arent helping matters but its what best suits my setup at the minute.

This was on road tyres as well pod was very warm and grippy as they had a big drag event on the week before. And they prepped the track as it was a private hire through another car club.

Mini13 not quite sure what you mean/ It does use some studs to bolt the diff casing on?

oh, you mean the ally dif casing that bolts to the back of the box.

i thought you meant the actual diff casing that holds the planet gears.

i have noticed on a lot of box's there is a casting mark up near the top pf the centre web where it meets the main part of the case, is this where yours has failed?

Gutted for you mate, but you must have really hooked up the launch to manage to do that. Would probably have been a good run lol

I think you need to frame the CWP and put it on the wall in your house for all to see.

Sorry to see you broke it.

Is the solution to use the KAD pinion support jobbie or is there a way of tying the diff part of the gearbox casing back to the mainshaft web?

I'm just going for the quick easy solution Paul. I hope to have it back together by the weekend I have ordered a kad support new gearbox bearings and I got a new cwp today. Hoping to run up to Preston to get a new casing on saturday!

I'm seeing the positive side of things. It shows I have good power and more importantly some grip. I just hope it holds out!

So, are folks believing that a taller diff does this more than a shorter diff?

This isn't the case (pardon the pun).

Even if it was, bearing loads between launching a 3.1 to a 3.9 wouldn't be enough to 'stop' it happening - clearly this is a weak point with super-high torque - and sufficient grip!
Incidentally, He keeps quiet about it, but I first saw this gearbox crack style around 8 years ago one of Matt Woods old cases sat in his garden. Very impressive.

What I'm really wondering is what 60ft and 1/4 times were being achieved prior to this going pop!

i was on about the semi-helical uprated version, to the standard item.

i dont have enough grip (yet) to worry mine at the minute though i dont think.
