While searching for info I found some people referring to a clutch article in the "how to" section but I was unable to find it...?

I am assembling my clutch so I can send crank assy for balancing.
I have milled off 1.5mm from the back plate lugs as adviced.
Clutch plate is AP CP2084-41 (7.2mm thick).
Now I have put things together (plate in correct way round) and I see that the lugs stick through the flywheel about 0.8mm see picture.

Is 0.8mm enough; will the straps not touch the flywheel when clutch pedal is completely pushed down?

I am using 2 straps, at the moment they are not completely horizontal, does that matter or am I getting too suspicious... :)

ps
I know, the teeth on the flywheel are not pretty..

Is it still 0.8mm if you assemble everything, ie, bolt the diagphram in place and compress the spring and hence "squash" the driven plate ???

Also, with it fully assembled you can then look "inside" to see if the spring is flat. I posted a thread about 10 months ago on this including photos of the spring after machining the lugs.

0.8mm seems very small, but it will only get bigger as the driven plate wears. However if it is too small, the last bit of pedal travel will overload the crank thrust bearings.

I'm sure someone on here has actually calculated the release bearing movement that occurs but I can't remember who.....

If you are worried about the straps, you can alter the thickness of the spacer (washer) under the other end. I had to increase mine significantly because of using a lighter (hence thinner) flywheel. I set mine to become "horizontal" once the plate was 1/2 worn.

It doesnt look like he has the diaghram bolted on there...so 0.8mm would cause the straps to foul on the flywheel.

Slap a couple of washers on to give more clearance.

Who advised you to machine 1.5mm off, and why ?

No, the diaghragm was not yet bolted on, I thought that wouldn't matter much, maybe 0.1-0.2mm. (?)

Shame I didn't find that thread Rod, I throught I's seen all clutch related threads there were...*oh well*
Any chance you can be more specific when and where you posted it?

I took 1,5mm off because I read it somewhere here to increase clamping force. As the back plate wasn't touched before I thought I'd just do it...:$

I will use some spacers and try to see when the spring goes flat to see what exactly is needed.

Yo Han, here were my threads, but remember, I am using a lightened flywheel so thinner, more clearance.....

I remember reading the lower link some time ago...

Meanwhile found out the 1,5mm was for a grey diaphragm, I have an orange one... oops..

And found a link to a thread on MM, it has been posted on TM before:

Thanks Rod!

!.5mm may still be correct for an orange - the reason for my thread/questions is because I actually measured it before machining, and it came out very close to 1.5mm

I think assembling and looking at the spring then measuring is the safest way - any machining, especially re-facing, of the other parts, will alter the figure.

Well, I assembled the clutch, this time with diaphragm and the spring is about flat, maybe 0,1-0,2 mm too far.
But I guess that will correct itself when clutch plate wears during initial running in.

I have about 1,4-1,5mm space between driving straps and flywheel which should be enough as I read the throw for disengaging clutch is about 1,3mm.

Conclusion, I'm pretty happy, and will be sending crank, pulley and clutch assy for balancing.

Thanks again for the help!
