Sorry i'm new to turbos

How does the compressor wheel stay linked to the rotational speed of the turbine and shaft? There is no keyway or slot to couple them together.
i.e. how is it locked onto the shaft?

Thanks

The nut on the end of the shaft holds it on, nothing more.

The fact it can be put on in different rotational positions (before the nut is tightened) is (theoretically) to help the people balancing the whole assembly.

Because the total balance is dependant on the position of compressor wheel to turbine wheel, that's why you have to mark the compressor wheel before taking one apart - unless you intend to get it re-balanced anyway.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
