I want to finish spraying my mini when i get back from uni.

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=326421

but it's going to be cold, damp and i'm working in a barn. I'm worried the finish will suffer from the weather... Does anyone have any suggestions?

I may be able to move it to a smaller barn and try and heat the room. Would this be much of an improvement? I'm not sure how even the heat would spread in the room. How long would I need to keep the paint warm for?

Or, Is there anyone local who has a nice setup i can come and use?

Also I could do with a decent moisture trap, my compressor is spitting out a bit of water. What ones can people recommend?

Cheers

Are you using cellulose or two pack?

You are going to struggle either way really, it is moisture that is your enemy with celly as it will "bloom", and if using 2k even with winter hardener it will not go off with no heat at all.

If you can you need to get it in a smaller space that you can heat up somehow. The important thing is that you need to get the actual car body up to temp as well, not just the surrounding air. You can hire space heaters for not that much though.

My car was sprayed in the winter. We used. A big gazebo in our farm workshop with a space heater to warm it up. We also had a fan on one end to draw out the fumes and paint in the air. We used 2 pack and had no troubles!

be careful if using a gas/diesel space heater as if you havent got a decent roof (mines single skin) moisture from combustion will condense and drip :(

Thanks guys. (2 pack paint by the way.)
I'm pretty sure we have a space heater kicking about so I'll try that in the smaller barn.
So best to give it time to warm the car metalwork before spraying.

Anyone got views on compressor moisture trap or will any do?

Pretty much all alike tbh. Your compressor should have a drain screw on the bottom aswell so make sure you drain it before you start and you'll get the majority out.

Any air trap will be better than nothing, have a look on ebay and machine mart etc and see what you can get hold of for reasonable money.

Its not recommended, but I sprayed a car in the open(with cellulose) in November, with the spray gun in one hand a fan heater in the other and got an acceptable finish - but I was a bit desperate !.

I am spraying mine right now. You need to line whereever you are doing it in plastic and close all the edges to give yourself a bubble to work in. A small heater is a must but the plastic bubble will retain the heat extremley well.

Own the day

Just a quick couple of questions...

Im hoping to spray my boot floor this weekend (first time spraying!!*surprised* ). Do I need to put more hardener in due to the cold weather?

Also ive got an electric heater to use, how long do I need to leave it on after spraying?

ive done allot of spraying all year round (qualified sprayer) in garages and alike, can i suggest you hook up atleast four 500w flood lamps on the four corners of the mini, not only will the radiate buckets of heat, but help give you light reflect to spray against. always worked a treat for me (it will caine electric tho) are you doing 2pack? id also suggest winter activators. and longet times between coats *tongue*

make sure you have a good filter on compressor, id use the biggest moister filter you can afford, and drain the moisture after EVERY coat, id also fit a mini moisture filter the gun end.

oh, and put a brick or too under the front of the compressor, it does help the water to go to the drain cock end and not the outlet end.

i asume you have all the breathing gear? dont risk not using it mate, harmfull stuf 2 pack
