Alright Guys,

I'm just putting my timing cover back on after fitting a duplex chain.

Do I need to modify the cover so it clears the duplex chain ?

Its a standard metro turbo cover. I did a searh but nothing came up. Just seems to ring a bell...

Cheers

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

theres a little "indent" at the bottom of the case underneath the bottom seal that needs knocking "outwards" to let the chain past - worth placing the cover on without a gasket to see if it clears here and also if the tin "semi circular" oil drain piece around the breather outlet clears the cam gear/chain

did you pop the two countersunk bolts in the bottom plate as well?

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Thanks for the clarification John,

Yeh, I did counter sink the 2 holes on the bottom of the front plate and fitted the counter sunk cap screws from minispares.

I will do what you said and then get out the big hammer !

Cheers

Brocky :)

Alright guys,

Lesson learn't...wish Id done this sooner, but had to quickly put in the spare short engine just before I left for the states a couple of years ago, and until after I put it on the rolling road forgot it only had a simplex timing set up !

I have just shipped the car out this December and have been happy sorting the motor.

Well I've just been for a spin after fitting the duplex and timming it in properly on my turbo motor, MG NA cam. I timmed it in at 109.5 with a 3 degree offset key, and there feels to be lots more power higher up the rev range, and the engine feels much more responsive.

I measured the standard set up before and it was about 5 degrees out.

Previously torque had been dropping off from 4.5 - 6 k, on 10 psi and was only giving about 115 bananas at 6k and 110 curly wurlys at 4.5k. 1310 motor. 8.4 cr , cossy intercooler and benross big valve head.

Probably due to the cam being out and the simplex stretch at high rpm.

While it was in bits I also rebuilt the carb and put in a blanked butterfly and binned the poppet valve and put in a fabricated jet holder.

Initial mixture adjustment was a pieces of cake and after 10 miles or so I pulled a plug and it was orange brown with a little black.
I prefer to run a little rich. Moter pull well even off boost.

I think I should see a good improvement next time I get it on the rollers.

Plan is to fit a MJ next, as I put on one of toms pulleys and brackets while I had the the timing cover off. Have got all the ford bits just need to order up the v4 mj. Thinking need to fit a wide band lamda sensor as well.

Really is great to get the car over here after a 2 year break.

Cheers
