Right i have my engine up and running now and plumbing all sorted along with a few other small teething problems.

My problem now is that i am having troubles selecting gears. I have a kad quickshift kit and im running the selecter as standard under the car.

when the car is running i seem to be able to select reverse easily and for some reason without lifting the stick, but i am realy struggling to get all four other driving gears they will select with a real struggle. Its a straight cut box if that makes any differance and apparently was rebuilt before i bought it.

any help would be very helpful

cheers.

Sounds like the gearlever is not seated deep enough into the selector housing.

Can you get the quickshift housing any lower on the selector?

Is it a proper KAD quickshift or one of the cheap copies?

I had dreadful problems with one of the copies.

maybe you might have problems if the engine is rocking under the bonnet ie not having enough stability and or if the gear selector bit in the selector box is worn?

Just some ideas to bear in mind

Sounds like the reverse gear idler bush has slipped out.

turn the engine of and try and put it in an imaginary 5th, this should push the gear back onto the bush. It won't stay working for long. If that's the problem, then it's a box out and get a new bush presses into the reverse gear idler.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

i suspect the problem lies with the dreaded QUICK shift......i hate these dam things.

try a standard one if it solves the problem than good .....if not its a gearbox inspection iam afraid, as you dont know the history of the box or the build etc.......

I have had 3 quick shifts (came with cars or job lots of spares) and sold them cos I think they are wank, and 2 of them didn't work.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I will never go back to the standard stick*happy*

So you see, its an opinion, and that opinion is not the same for every one. Either you like them or you don't*tongue*

get a haines manual with the gear box bit in and do it yourself - that's the best advice I was given.

Getting to the reverse lay gear is not that hard. A new reverse gear isn't that expensive

Right sorted took the quickshift off and the roller ball was just loose in the shifter then clips had popped off for some reason.

Anyway i replaced the clips and tried again but it was still wanky so i have gone back to the original shifter and it works a treat so no short shift for me!!!

Anyway i now have a brand new kad quickshift for sale if anyone wants?, just glad its not the box.

thanks for the help guys, learning all the time.
