what set ups are you using with your megajolts cable and computer wise

i am trying to get a laptop similar to this as it already has the port ready so i wont have to have the whole hit and mis with usb convertors

(am i right in thinking the photo shows the port on the left is fine for the jolt cable)

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

The port on the left is 9 pin serial so should work for the MJ.

Apparently some of the most common USB to RS232 converters all use the same Prolific chip and driver. About 7 years ago, Prolific released a dodgey driver, and still to this day it can be found bundled with these USB converters.

The best thing to do is avoid the USB converters based on the Prolific pl2303 chip. It is difficult to know if it is a Prolific chip or not as there are so many. I would suggest the B&B Electronics converters to be a good option as they predominantly manufacture connectivity devices for industry, and I doubt that any of their products would have serious issues like the Prolific seems to. I think that the saying "You get what you pay for" may apply.

If you cannot use anything other than a device with a prolific chip, at least use the most up to date drivers!

Vems users have suffered and overcome these problems.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

another good alternative is a PCMCIA 232 card if you have a PCMCIA slot
