All,

Having a issue with my rear brakes for sorting my MOT,

Basicly its not meeting the effeciency requirements on the footbrake rears or handbrake.

The backplates, springs, cylinders, pads and drums are all brand new (15miles use max)

could it just be a case of it need wearing in? i dont really drive the car so they dont get used.

i cant see what else it could be, the handbrake is pretty crap!

yep, tried the adjuster up top and didnt really seam much different, just caused massive drum drag,

there just doesnt seam to be any 'adhesion' between the pads and drums.

Is there crap on the shoes/ drum?
Know it sounds basic but I took one apart once and some grease from the wheel bearing had got into the drum and made a right mess fucked the shoes up

whip the drums off, give them a blast with brake cleaner, and a run round some emery cloth, if possible leawe the drums of and outside in the weather overnight to get a little surface rust,

If they are cheap shoes its worth roughing the surface of those up with the emery too in a sideways motion.

some of the cheap shoes can be quite hard and take a while to bed in, tdoing the above will help get them started,

check the lever arms are round the correct way. I had them reversed and it made the difference between pass and fail
