When fitting the N/A MG Metro Cam for a turbo application what timing have people used?

I just lined up the pulley and cam dots but am considering that my poor off boost performance is partly explained by incorrect cam timing.

What're peoples' thoughts?

108 seems to work for us on the van.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I've installed three or four MG Metro cams and have always had to advance them at least 5 degrees from the dot to dot to get 108.

Cheers chaps.
So i take it 108 is the standard timing figure but the dots rarely give it.
I'll have to measure what mine is. Presumably I can fit an offset key with the engine in place and head still on? Just whip out the rad?

I think 108 is the best for a turbo engine. Chain stretch should only loose you 2-3 degrees

The dots are good enough for either a starting point, or standard engines for your granny. You always need to check and correct to get the best out of the engine.

Erm guys confused.com
I have just built up a 1380 turbo and put in a Kent Cam KC500 or NA MG Turbo. When I put it in I just lined up the dots... Can you advise me on this 108 business.......please..

the advice is that you should check it and if required correct it with an off set key..

Search you tube for cam timing...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

As above, do a search on cam timing. It should answer your question

Like a rabbit caught in the head lights........
Would you guys advise in putting in a 5 degree key.. The purpose of doing this is it just to make things abit tighter, lose any slack from the chain and drive.... If this was just set to standard what woul be the out come.... And the video wasn't clear on he process would I be adavancing or retarding the cam 5 degrees... I would like to get this right as the engine is built and before I put it in.......thanks

I would measure, then fit the correct camshaft key, but I must admit, if choosing from dot to dot or a 5 degree key, I'd go with the key.
However, I would NEVER not measure.

Gents, after a bit of advice;
Having considered circumstances I will first put a used 998 in the van.
I have a NA MG Metro cam that I put in and now working on the timing.

As per above, I get 111,5 deg dot to dot.
Engine spec is 998 A+
Worked 12G295-ish head
9:1 compression
and the MG Metro cam

I'm using the old chain
Considering I am supercharging, not turbocharging, is my target still 108?

Dazed and Confused....

Mine is in at 107. Figured it Will delay a bit once chain streches.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018
